First AR-15 (budget or save up)

Although not for the "Inexperienced", one can also have a 9mm using the same lower that you listed all those uppers with. It can be done "Colt" style with a Mag Block, or CMMG sells a Magazine that fits directly into the "Magwell" , but again this is not something for the inexperienced. I have one older CMMG 9mm upper that got me started and now I have 2 PSA 9mm uppers that I'm building another gun for.
I built a AR9 but used standard AR15 upper and lower along with a Stoner colt smg mag adaptor . Runs great too using low cost anderson upper and lower to start with bought at our local lgs / general store . I never owned a factory assembled AR and our two AR15's started with Aero Precision stripped upper and lowers when they started selling to the public . A few months back I did buy an assembled PSA 10.5 5.56 upper as the price was so low on a "special" I had to try one . Takes 3 minutes to swamp out uppers on the AR9 to a ar15 10.5" 5.56 upper, remove the stoner mag adaptor and change buffer to a lighter 5.4oz buffer . Runs great and serves as a HD with a light / laser combo added or shorter yardage use . Its not a moa or less shooter but not a bad ether .

Curious as to the "condition and accuracy" of the budget AR15/5.56 after 20K plus rounds fired?
How much have they degraded, since new, compared to a current 6920 or equivalent ?
100-300 yard groups, prone or elbows on the bench.
Thanks.

If I had the tools and the time, I would build all my own stuff, But the two 9mm uppers I bought from PSA worked as expected on my already Mag Blocked lower, which was why I decided to build a second gun. Living in Komiefornia, I have to make everything conform so I try to use what I already have that works as much as possible.

YouTube's RobSki and Garand Thumb both tested PSA AR's. Search for their results, though neither man did a 20,000 round test the data was interesting.

Cool thing about AR's. It's a simple task to swap a shot out barrel for a brand new one. Same with the lower, just buy a new lower parts kit.

Other than a bench vice, I can't think of anything not in this picture you'd need.

Yea you do live in a mucked up state . I to used a AR15 10.5" upper with bcg from psa for the AR9 to ar15 change over. When I was reading and asking for advise on my first ar15 builds I was asked if I wanted to use the tools needed from forum member that lived about 40 minutes away , I did for my first build . You might have some one close to you on a forum that has the tools needed to assemble a future AR too. I ended up buying the couple items I needed from ,, darned if I remember now . But today amazon and psa can more than likely save you a few bucks if you decide to assemble your own or upgrade in the future .

Like I said for now the PSA 10.5 556pistol upper has been running fine . Our AR15 carbines to use criterion hybrid chrome lined barrels and tool craft bcg , hyperfire triggers so cost could have been reduced by using other parts but ours sure are shooters .

To buy a rifle in a state other than your own, it must be transacted by an FFL and be legal in both states.

No.
I got a Tennessee DL and consider myself a Tennessee resident . I can buy a rifle or long gun anywhere I go . Legally I am supposed to buy a handgun thru an FFL in my state of residence but I buy most face to face in states that I can drive to and back in a day or less and no FFL is involved. Long guns , I can go to any FFL seller in Alabama with my Tennessee DL and buy any rifle or shotgun they got and drive it right back to Tennessee or keep it at one of the Alabama properties.

You can buy a long gun in a contiguous state

A licensee may sell a rifle or shotgun to a person who is not a resident of the state where the licensee's business premises is located in an over–the–counter transaction, provided the transaction complies with state law in the state where the licensee is located and in the state where the purchaser resides.

Bushmaster lw 1:8 upper, PSA (blem) lower, "carpenter" bcg, $25 ChiCom 1" mount, Jap Bushnell Banner 3x9 scope. 150 rds, 100% reliable, 2" groups at 100yds (can't imagine "utility" targets further). $325 all in. I have 2 Colt's 6920's, brand new in the back row of my safe, been there since the AWB "sunset" in 2004 (one marked "LE/ Gov't/ Export? use only). No reason to shoot 'em. Joe

How about telling us what your colt 6920 can shoot after 20,000 rounds along with ammo used ??

I have never owned a preassembled Ar15 from anyone but I have been lucky maybe that I have range time with a few better brands of AR and a couple colt AR's over the years and accuracy was ok to less than I would want in my own AR .

When I finally got around to buying parts and assembling our ar15's I used criterion 1/8 twist chrome lined hybrid barrels and moa or less was possible with a fairly wide variety of ammo when new and still today after 12,000 rounds fire . I don't play rapid fire and I maintain our AR's well . Now If I find a barrel is junk by 20,000 rounds I'll just replace, not like thats a big deal .

Same can be said for a bargain priced psa ar15 bought during a sale . There enough you tube gun mutts running torture test on the psa carbine to show it is still reliable and still shots moa groups after thousands of rounds of abuse and the price was low enough you could still buy a second upper just in case it was needed and be money ahead over what must be your beloved colt 6920 .

I'm kind of done for now with building anything new, other than the lower for the previously mentioned 9mm uppers I already have. When PSA wasn't quite as popular as they are now, they had lots of sales, and they sold what they called "Blems". I bought two "Blems", and I could not find anything on either of them that I would consider a BLEMISH. So my conclusion was they were just moving product. I put a lot of rds through them and really cannot say they were any less accurate than anything else I bought from them. I used to get Daily Email with deals and of course at every Holiday they always had a big sale. Not so much anymore. They had a Christmas In July Sale, but compared to the past it was a Nothing Burger. I bought the CHF Premium Patrol Rifle Kit, and a Carry Handle several Labor Days Ago and with Free Shipping, I still only paid a little over $600 with tax. That same kit today with no Carry Handle is $719.99 Success does come at a cost.
