I was gifted a Smith and Wesson 38 special by a dear friend. It's in cosmetically poor shape but is excellent shooting condition. The serial number is 528646.im not sure how to post pictures yet.any info is appreciated.

It is considered good form to open another thread for a question regarding a different gun instead of tagging onto an existing thread. What you have is a S&W Military and Police (M&P) Model which dates to around 1926-27.

Hey, Wiregrass neighbor! Welcome to the forums. As DWalt has stated, it is a .38 M&P, Model 1905, 4th Change from the mid-1920's. S&W first produced these guns in 1899 and they have been in continuous production since. (Well, someone will point out production was suspended during WWI.) Today, its ancestors are known as the Model 10. They are very popular revolvers with about 7 million produced since introduction.
