Hello, I will try to be "to the point". 6 shooter. Walnut grips with checkering.

Serial: 6842xx.

Cal: 38 spec

Lanyard ring: no

Yoke: Only assembly numbers

Screws: 5, plus one on the grip front

Sights: non adjustable

I am sure you knowledgeable people can help me!

Best regards,

Me. :)

I'm no expert, but taking a wild guess I'd say it could be a Military & Police Model from the late 1930s. That's assuming the serial provided is correct. With minor changes this becomes the Model 10 in 1957.

Your results may vary. Not valid in all areas.

That SN (without a letter prefix, such as V) would indicate a civilian Military and Police (M&P) revolver, which probably shipped sometime in the March-May 1940 timeframe. Yours was made immediately prior to S&W's beginning of mass production of similar M&Ps (but chambered in .38 S&W) for the British Commonwealth military. Those British revolvers had lanyard swivels. Correct grips would be wooden, of the diamond checkered "round top" type having a small silver S&W medallion. If original, the back side of the right grip panel should be stamped with a matching serial number. Some good pictures would be necessary for a more positive ID.

Welcome to the Forum. Pictures are needed, however tell us the barrel length, the finish ( blue, nickel, or?) What are the stampings on the barrel and on the right side of the frame below the cylinder gap? Are the walnut grips service style or Magnas? Is there a S&W medallion in the grips. Is the right grip numbered on the back side, if so , what is the number? Does the grip frame have a plugged hole where the lanyard swivel was previously located? Ed.
