Welcome to the forum.

You have a wonderful heirloom to pass down to future generations. It's provenance will be interesting to your heirs so I suggest you write down everything you know about it from your dad and keep the document with the gun. Also shoot it and enjoy its amazing accuracy and fun factor.

As Colokeb posted it's a .22/32 Kit Gun and a very early 4 screw, Model of 1953. These are .22s built on the .32 cal size New 'I' Frame which were made with 'J' frame size stocks (grips). According to the serial # it most likely shipped out of the factory Nov. 1954.

After Oct 1960 these were built on the .38 Special small 'J' frame.

This gun was recently stolen in a robbery and the insurance company is trying to claim an insane amount of depreciation. So I am looking for some knowledgeable people to give me an idea of what the value of this revolver truly is. Any help or resources are greatly appreciated.

-Thank you!

I'm sorry to hear about the theft. I hate thieves.

Even with the apparent finish issues, it is a relatively hard gun to find. I would peg a rough value of $500-750 on that Kit Gun.

Sorry to hear that!

Go to Gunbroker.com and do an "ADVANCED" SEARCH for Smith Kit Gun; choose Completed auctions option.

I would also say $7-800. Your gun is a "Model of 1953 I frame, .22/32 Kit Gun with only a 4 digit # which adds some premium to value as well.

As suggested go to gun broker and find the same gun and get the highest sales to give to your insurance co. As your gun sits I would estimate it at $700.

Good advice already given on your pistol. After having dealt with insurance adjusters after a major loss a few years back (fire in a commercial building), I can assure you that the insurance company is only out for themselves. If they had their way . . . you'd be paying THEM for YOUR loss. Stick to your guns (no pun intended) and don't let them take advantage of you. If they do give you a lot of heartache over it . . . contact your state insurance commission and let your insurance company know you are going to do just that. Good luck!

Sorry to hear of your loss, welcome to the forum and Good Luck with the insurance company. When my loss occurred I was pleased with my agent, the company and the adjuster, hope you have a similar experience. The Kit Guns are my favorites.

Those "appreciate" they don't depreciate. Pick up any Blue Book or price guide and look up a 2" 22/32 Kit gun and you will find from $700 to $800. Don't just ask, demand full value. Are you a NRA member? You have $2500 worth of gun insurance with your membership.

Excellent advice. Just be aware that you have to join GunBroker and be logged in to use the
Advanced Search \ Completed Auctions function.
