New member, having read several threads on the subject, I have some idea of the gun in question, but some confusion still exists. My best friend died last year of Alzheimers, and his widow asked me to dispose of his guns(I have an FFL). It's a model 35, no dash, blued, 22LR, 6" bbl, six shot revolver. Condition is NRA excellent, and it looks like my friend fired it very little. Is this an I frame gun made from 1957-1960? The box reads "22/32 Target". No papers are included, s/n is 397xx. Hopefully the pics will load.

Welcome to the forum! Beautiful gun. It's a 3 screw. The earliest Model 1953 Models had 4 screws.

Yours being a Model of 1953 Target is made on the NEW I Frame which has the new style larger egg shaped trigger guard and the new style square butt on all the Target Models.

The Model 1953 Kit Gun Models with 2" or 4" barrels have an 1/8" longer rd butt grip frame and the new sq butt grip frame is also available on these.

The Improved I frame added the barrel rib with ramp style front sight, and replaced the leaf main spring with the coil spring.

Still built on the Model 1953 New I frame. At the end of 1960 it became the Mod 35-1 because it was changed to being built on the J frame (1/8" longer cyl frame window and cylinder). But it looked the same.

Thanks for all the help, you have very quickly given me everything I need to know about this gun, except what it's worth. I want to get it's true worth for my friends widow.

$1000

It appears to be in 99% condition with only a slight cylinder ring wear mark. It has box- does it have it have a matching serial number on the outside bottom of the box in grease pencil?

The model marked version of the model 1953 is the rarest version of the 22/32 Target models. If it had the factory sight adjustment screwdriver and paper work, it would be worth more. Look for the screwdriver in your friend’s work bench or gun cleaning kit!
