Ok I am new to this site, but have been reading it for years. I just bought from a big box store a unfired model 35-1 with a 4" barrel. Since 35-1 were only with 6" barrel, I am just not sure about this pistol, but it shows not sighs of being fired, and no turn marks, and everything is correct, Serial number is M407XX there are no marks on barrel pin, and a local S&W collector thinks it was a parts pistol that S&W made up from parts after the 35-1 was dropped. I am into it for $800. I am a kit gun man, so the store salesperson found this pistol back in the vault because it had been put on hold for a customer who never came back to buy it over 6 months ago. I can pay $100 for a letter, but just don't need to invest more. store will let me know if the find the box.

An odd one for sure. Are there any rework stars or other marks under the grips or under the barrel?

You should post pictures including ones with the grips removed and one of the barrel from below.

We like pictures.

I’d guess a factory “parts gun,” too. That seems the case in reverse with my Model 35, which is made on a Model 34 stamped frame with a 5 over-stamped on the 4. From what I have been told, this was not unheard of with Model 35s. My gun has a correct box with what appears to me to be a proper end label showing model and serial number. I doubt it was assembled in the field, but I’m not paying $100 to find out. :D Does your gun have the typical ramp front sight normally seen on modern 4-inch kit gun barrels?
