I have 2 Model 66's. They are both Model 66's with a 4" barrel. One is identified as a 66-1. The other I know was purchased in 1975 by paperwork and is only stamped as a 66. The latter has been modified with a wide knurled hammer spur and a wide trigger shoe. This is the "66." I believe the 66-1 was purchased in the 90's. Is there a difference between a 66, and a 66-1? Also, the rear sight on the 66-1 is blued and the rear sight on the "66" is silver. Any insight would be appreciated.

The 66 no dash was the first engineering variant of the Model 66 and they initially came with stainless steel sights which are desirable to collectors. My recollection is that sometime fairly early in the production range (1970-1977) the stainless sights were changed to black sights.

Per SCSW Third Edition:
The Model 66 was introduced in 1970 at serial number K949100.
The Model 66-1 was introduced in 1977 and the gas ring was changed from the yoke to the cylinder.
Both the 66 and the 66-1 should be P&R (pinned barrel and recessed/counter bored cylinder).

You've got 2 nice guns...... some would say the best of the 66's from a collectors point of view with the Pinned barrel and recessed cylinders.

Also great shooters... carry guns.

Many argue against "trigger shoes" as some extend beyond the trigger guard and can catch on holsters.....

Very very nice guns you have there. The 66's are so cool. My no dash is a 2 1/2"(with blued rear sight), and my -1 is a 4"". Enjoy them-they are great shooters.

If the 66-1 was purchased in the 90's it would have been purchase used I'm assuming. The silver/stainless steel rear sight is more collectible but actually harder to use and they changed to a regular blued sight not too long after introduction.
The trigger shoe has fallen out of favor and should proabbaly be removed if you're intending on selling it.
