I have a complete "parts" package for a S&W without the frame and barrel, so I need to identify it. 11972 maybe the serial number.
I have the side plate, and that is the only thing that can identity the revolver.

Sounds like you have the cylinder. What caliber and is it and how may cartridges does it accept? It may have a serial number on the back. The yoke arm may also be serialized.

If the hammer in photo 2 is of the parts grouping, it is of a style used from the early 1900s until the late 1940s. Photos showing all the parts from both sides may help here.

It's a post WWII center fire revolver - pre 1948 if a K frame (most likely), or pre 1950 if it's a large N frame gun.

Because the inside of the side plate has the long skinny groove and the hammer has the notch under the firing pin: both indicate it's designed for the post war sliding bar hammer block safety.
