Can anyone point me to a list of the different versions of the Model 64? I just acquired a -6, and am curious as to where it falls in the evolutionary line.

The 64-6 version came out in 1998. The first Model 64s were introduced in 1970. The 64-6 was a major change and introduced a different frame shape, with MIM hammer with a floating firing pin.

Hope this helps.

My first Agency issued service revolver (1974/75 ?) was a Model 64 no dash. I was last on the list, as I wanted to keep using my own personal revolver (blued). All the other officers had the Model 64 H.B. and the only Model 64 left was the "No Dash". (pencil barrel) It was well used when it came to me but it was a "Tack Driver". After the change to GLOCKs, I purchased it from the dealer that took the Smiths in on trade for Glocks. The Model 64 and I are old now, but the Model 64 has held up much better than me and it is stil a "Tack Driver".

Jimmy, I hope you got a "buy" from that dealer. At our range/FFL in NYC, we always took pride and pleasure to offer courtesy to all LE agency (and there are many) personnel in the metropolitan area.

I don't recall what my purchase price was for the Model 64, but I have managed to hold on to it though some poor times.
