Got my IDPA journal a little while ago and noticed several very interesting things from the recent IDPA Nationals.

Number of Brands-27... Glock @ 29.2%, S&W @ 26.1%, Springfield @ 9.6%, Kimber@ 3.5%, STI @7.8%, Wilson Combat @5%, CZ @3.4%, Nighthawk @2.8%,and Misc. @ 12.4%

What I thought was interesting is the huge increase in S&W M&P's and the low useage of Kimber, even Wilson and STI had more users than Kimber...Interesting indeed!

The Glock 34 had 16.20%, The M&P Pro had 9.66% and the Glock 17 had 6.54%. Interesting to me that there are more M&P Pro's than the Glock 17..

Top Holsters- Comp-Tac 42.7%, Blade-Tech 30.3, Safariland 5.2% not much leather being used here...

Another surprise to me was the number of revolver shooters out of 332 shooters ...32 used a revolver and it appears that S&W was the only revolver being used. Could be wrong on this one however...

Striker fired had 57.68%, SAO/1911@ 25.31%, DA/SA @ 4.98%, and Revolvers 9.97%!!

A Montana manufacturer was second for bullet supplier !! ( Montana Gold)
Top was Berry's @ 19.5%, Montana Gold @ 11.9%, Black Bullet Int. 10.3$

Top loading press....no surprises here Dillon had 83.1 %, followed by Lee Precision @6.1%, Hornady 5.6%, RCBS @ 3.8%, Lyman 0.5%....the surprise to me was the low useage of RCBS

So...some things I expected and a few others that I didn't see at all...ie. Kimber, RCBS, the G17 and almost no leather holsters..

I haven't shot IDPA in 9 years...I miss it. However, the G34 dominated even back then. It doesn't surprise me the G17 is low...why shoot a G17 when a G34 gives you a slight advantage with PF, sight radius, lowering recoil, etc.?

As for the S&W revolver, well, it is the fastest revolver on the market with it's fast trigger return/reset design. As accurate and smooth as Colt Pythons are, they just aren't as fast and the cylinder release is less than optimal for speed competition. Plus, nowadays you can't hardly afford to buy one for "gaming" purposes...your average Python could buy you 3 S&W guns, or two with lots of gunsmithing.

As for Kimber hardly showing up any more...is there really any surprise there? People are finally realizing the company is marketing hype more than anything else. I'll take a $300 cheaper Springfield Armory over any respective Kimber any day.

Can't wait to get back into IDPA. I used to be able to shoot my 625 in SSR as it was THE ONLY revolver division! Ha! But I won't argue the 625 and other moonclip revos definitely gave the shooter an equipment advantage.

I got into IDPA about six years ago and remember very few M&P's then. BUT, since then they have made a pretty good push into my local club matches. I think some of that is due to the product introduction to the market was about that time (I may be wrong about that). Still nowhere close to the number of Glock 34's. I've used a Glock 17 for pretty much my entire time in IDPA and I really don't see that many of them.

Kimber? I cant think of the last time I saw a Kimber in a local match.

I am impressed with 10% Revolvers at the Nationals.

We have started shooting ICORE at our Club, along with Defensive Pistol and Reactive Steel Challenge.

We have about 5 or 6 Limited/ESR Revolver that show up. They are all Smith & Wesson's.

Most of our shooters are shooting in Classic/SSR Division.
We are running a solid 50% Ruger GP100's in Classic/SSR Division. All of our NEW Revolver shooters are running Rugers. My local dealer has been getting Ruger Revolvers on the shelf. He has also been selling them fairly quickly. I think he has sold 6 Willy Clapp GP100 in the last two or three months.

I think we will be seeing more Ruger GP100's in the future in Classic/SSR. They are cheaper to buy. More available. Easy to work on. All adjustable sight GP's have a Quick Change front sight. You have to get an SSR to get a quick change in a 686. And from what I can tell Ruger has been doing a better job on slicking up the new ones. The new Management at Ruger seems to be picking up their Revolver Game.

Shields Up to Repel Rock Throwing Bombardment!!

In Defensive Pistol (Club IDPA without all the Rules) we are still seeing mostly Glocks at our range in SSP. Most of our shooters are running their concealed carry pistol that they have owned for years, and not a competition version just for the Match. So mostly 17's, 19's, 22's and 23's. With a few compacts thrown in, and I think one lonely 34. I would have thought the M&P's would have picked up a lot more in our area. We have a locally based Trainer who is a poster boy for Glock's. The trainer is about as good with Tupperware as anyone I have ever seen. He even converted my dyed in the wool 1911 shooting neighbor over to a Glock. I would have bet money that would not have happened. One Class and he was running Combat Tupperware. I like the M&P's and would probably buy one over a Glock if I were to go over to the Dark Side. Glock still has a very big Fan Base. Lots of happy customers over a long time. It will take a while to pick up the market share with better features.
