IDPA / ISPC

A whole lot. Philosphy, equipment etc. etc. To get the best idea, you should go on line and read their rule books. You question is sort of like asking what is the difference between the U.S. and England.

I shoot both and have a blast in either. The rules are different but many use the same gear in both...Production usually has the highest participation in USPSA and SSP in IDPA .

Try both if possible....

Hi Jimmy,

There is a different culture/mindset between USPSA (IPSC) and IDPA. You'll probably be best served to give both a try and see which is for you. Keep in mind, IDPA is sometimes viewed as "real world" but the truth is, anytime a timer is running its just a game.

As an example of the different rules/mindsets, I'm and old IPSC shooter who recently shot a couple of IDPA matches. It just isn't for me because some of the rules just don't jive with my background. For instance, the last stage I shot the previous shooter fired an extra round (intentionally dumped it) and reloaded from slide lock. I shot the stage and did a speed reload (dropped the empty mag on the ground) with a round still in the chamber. There was no competitive advantage and I was doing what IPSC shooters do (not running the gun dry, if possible). Guess who racked up a penalty?

Another possibility if they are offered in your area is "outlaw" type matches. In my experience these can be the most fun of all.
