Keep in mind that it is only a draft. The comment period on the proposed rule changes closed a few days ago, so they are no going to process all the input and consider a second revision. The target date for the final draft is the date you stated...Oct. 1.

I read the draft and submitted a bunch of input on it. Here are some of the changes that I found particularly interesting:

  • All striker fired guns will be legal in SSP (i.e. Glocks, XDs, M&Ps, etc.)
  • SSP max gun weight increased to be equal with ESP (good news for you CZ SP01 shooters)
  • Some changes in range commands. Shooter is expected to be ready within 15 seconds after Load and Make Ready command
  • If shooting in the open on way to cover, you can initiate an emergency reload while in the open if you go dry
  • Retention reloads renamed "Loaded Cylinder/Chamber Reloads," and officially prohibited from being mandated in scenario-type stages
  • Changes to the number of reloads allowed on your belt, depending upon capacity of your mags (i.e. if using <8-round mags, you can now have three on your belt instead of the original two)
  • Glocks can now run metal guide rods in SSP
  • Classifier times modified. Most are minor changes, but SSP times dramatically changed to require you to shoot much faster to move up in class
  • Big changes in how sanctioned matches are run, including a parroting of the USPSA appeals process (and the $100 appeal fee)

Excuse my ignorance as I am a newb, but what does SSP stand for?

There are five gun divisions in IDPA. SSP is the division for double-action or DA/SA semi-autos. But glocks were also put in that division while XDs have traditionally been considered not double action semi autos. So XDs were put in ESP, despite the fact that the triggers between the two platforms are practically the same. With this proposed rule change, the guns will be able to be used in the same division if the shooter wants.

I just joined IDPA, mainly to get a rule book before the match I'm going to Sunday. My member packet showed up today, and said there is no rule book because the new rule book is going into effect Oct. 1, but I can look them up online.

Can anyone tell me if they're going to mail out rule books in Oct., or do I have to print 80 pages from the internet if I want an actual rule book?

If you have a smart phone or tablet, you can download the current and new rule book to those types of devices. Recommend as search is your friend.

It looks like they are not going to raise the value of a point down to 1 second per point. That is a shame. They missed an opportunity to stop a lot of the "hosing" going on at matches.
