I would not have believed it.......Yesterday helped a family member move his gun safe and guns to his new house.....He's a Colt fiend.....Has ONE lonely S&W 34 in the bunch(inherited).....Anyway as he opened the safe to pack his lovelies away......He donned a pair of white cotton GLOVES before removing the various gems to their transport boxes....I never said a word.......Maybe I'm doing it wrong.....All my Smiths get is fingers & hands.......

Ehh, to each his own. I usually wipe down my blued guns for storage. Don't have any white gloves...

White Gloves

No matter what you use to preserve the original finish the gloves are an added safeguard to further preserve said finish and it isn't prudish to use the gloves in my opinion. An appreciated gesture from where I sit! Ren. Wax and white gloves, the way to go! Eventually you will appreciate it.

White cotton gloves are cheap and are a great way to protect a firearm during handling. I know a few deadly serious collectors. Not only do they put on the gloves before handling a valuable firearm, they furnish me a pair to put on if I want to handle one of their guns.

Some people also have very corrosive skin oils. I knew one guy who could leave rusty fingerprints on any blued gun if it wasn't wiped down after he'd handled it. He wore gloves even when handling stainless steel guns that weren't his.

I can think of two "celebrities" that use white gloves. Our own Lee (look at his pictures sometime) and of course Michael Jackson. He died.

I don't use white gloves because I tend to drop guns when I twirl them and fan them. And I don't do anything nasty whilst I'm handling guns.

I use white gloves when handling my firearms, even with the silicon gun cloth in my hands. Keeps the chemicals off of me.
The only guns ever barehanded are the daily carry and they get wiped down when put away! ;)

This is me, exactly!!! The man the OP referred to is a knowledgeable collector, caring for fine firearms properly should never be mistaken for being prudish.

If you ever go to one of the high-grade auction houses they will hand you gloves before you touch.

When I was a smoker my hand oil was really corrosive. Now, not nearly so bad.

You are entitled to corrode your own guns if you wish, but your friend is protecting his investment in those Colts...doesn't make him weird or a wimp.

I waited a minute after reading all of these to think if I could ever remember asking someone if I could hold their firearm. No. I do not offer mine to people as a rule. I do show visitors anything they show an interest in, but it is not usually necessary for them to put their paws on them. If at a gun show, I will ask permission to inspect something that is for sale. I have folks that I know who just pick up guns off people's tables as if they were apples or oranges. This perplexes me when I KNOW they are not or can not buy the gun the want to rub on. When you visit me, you may look at anything I have and we'll give it a good rub down when you are through. Now, I'm starting to think this glove deal might be just the ticket.?

 You did not put the big Gorilla and Michael Jackson in the same sentence! :D:D
