If only one gun? Can't do it...

Of the ones I currently own, it would be the HK P7; if it could be one I'd LIKE to own, it would be the new Wison EDC X9 - their 1911 type version and answer to the Glock 19

I know lots of people that own just one gun. Usually a shotgun as you can shoot birds and deer with it.
I'll play the one gun game-My SBEII. All I need for hunting. Just have to get closer to the deer and hogs that's all.
If another is allowed-then my 617-4. Not the best for self defense but at least I can plug the badguy 10 times before reloading and it works well for the occasional critter in the back yard. Everything else is really a variation on the theme. It's what you need vs what you want. I've got plenty of EDC guns and Bedside table guns and car guns and office desk drawer guns and varmit guns and SHTF guns but in all my 60 years the only things I have actually drawn down on and shot were ducks, squirrels the occasional deer/pig (which were targets of opportunity on duck hunts) and backyard critters like armadillos, possums and the like. And for all of those, I have used either a shotgun of some sort or a .22 handgun. Wait, I did shoot a pig with my 30-30.
Everything else was just paper punching/plinking/street sign shooting/or just making loud BOOMS.

Honestly If I can only have one gun, I'd chose a S&W 686-6"... You could hunt with it, target shoot, home defense, carry it, (sure why not!) And I dare say, USPSA/IDPA with it.... lol.

Although it would be a slight compromise I could do it... This year I put together a "system" based on a 1911 GM size gun that will function with multiple rounds...

The base gun is a Kimber Stainless Target II in 10mm. I then found out that Kimber uses the same breachface for both 9mm and 10mm...so I started adding barrels.
The gun will now run:
10mm
.40 S&W
.38 Super, 9mm Largo and 9x23 Winchester in one barrel
9mm

Then found a complete slide assembly in .45 ACP and with a minor modification slid right onto the 10mm frame without having to change out the ejector. By using a flat bottom firing pin stop and different spings the slide will now run .45 ACP and .45 Super.

Added a .22 Conversion Unit so everything from plinking to big game hunting is covered by one gun...

Picture is from before the .45 slide was purchased.

Also looking at additional barrels in .357 SIG and 7.62x25...

Would miss my .41 Magnum revolvers but I "could" get along with just this one...
