Last Monday (December 6th) I shared a car with my brother for several hours. He had the next three days off work, texting me that he was sick with painful throat and headache. A covid test on the Wednesday came back negative early Friday morning.

Friday was my first day back at work after three days off and it started with a scratchy throat. After getting his negative result my brother said he would be in for his 1 pm shift, so I picked him up for the four hour shift overlap. By 3pm I was starting to feel well below normal and had him drive for the last 2 hours.

Saturday my throat felt like I had swallowed a coil of razor wire. Sunday was worse so I too got a covid test. The results Tuesday morning were negative but was out to it. I would be awake and up for 45 minute to an hour then crash for several hours. Today (Friday, a week after feeling unwell) I am still tired, my throat is uncomfortable but not painful, and I have a nagging deep cough that is making my ribs ache.

Covid has finally broken out two towns (50 km/30 miles) away from us.

I have received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine and was due a booster shot on Tuesday. If this ain't covid then I definitely don't want it.

Oh, and Omicron arrived on our shores yesterday:eek::eek:

I've felt exactly the same way for the last four days, been chug-a-lugging Umcka the whole time...My sore throat was the worst ever when I woke up this morning, then ten minutes later all symptoms were gone...I no longer try to explain medical mysteries...:o...Ben

Saw this quote regarding Omicron in the news today:

As preliminary data begins to roll in surrounding the omicron variant, one symptom is beginning to stand out among the others: Many of those infected have reported having a scratchy throat as opposed to a sore throat.

Feel better soon, Kiwi.
I too have been "symptomatic" (whatever that means anymore) so I've been off work since Tuesday. I scored a negative on the home test on Tuesday night. Ironically, and sadly, the test kit was made in China. I feel like I should be "professionally swabbed" and hope those tests aren't of the same questionable origin.
Some days I have an overwhelming urge to pray for the future of our country.

I was symptomatic starting with the sore throat last week. I’ve had three doses of Pfizer and a flu shot and it cleared up after five days. I haven’t been tested

In early October I had 14 days of Covid and tested positive, the wife tested negative. I had coughs that beat my ribs terribly! About 45 days later I'm still pretty weak and often need a cane to walk. I can't walk a straight line for 20 feet!

Just having a great time here on the forum, thanks for keeping me company everyone!

Ivan

There are several different types of tests for Covid-19, with the "rapid test" being the least reliable for both false negative and false positive results. If you took a rapid test (results available the same day) then I would recommend finding and taking a different type.

Other than that I would like to point out that the FLU hasn't gone away; neither has strep, nor mono, nor many other common and easily transmissible diseases. Best bet - ask your family doctor, not the internet! :D

Covid and the damage it did to the cartilage between my ribs cost me nearly 8 full months of my life that year trying to recover. I wouldn't wish that on anyone!

Whatever it is, I hope you feel better soon.

I wake up with a scratchy/sore throat most days. Mine is from my sinuses and the mold laden (I'm sure it's more than just mold) air here in central Virginia. There are tons of viruses out there, a big number of them are corona viruses and the symptoms can be remarkably similar. As for testing, rapid antigen tests are notoriously inaccurate. The PCR test can be more accurate, but it is reliant upon the person performing the lab portion of the test to have everything set up correctly and perform the test correctly.
