If you bought a new S&W recently and love it... tell us!

Bought a new 640 about 18 months ago. Once I found the right set of grips and a proper holster for it, it became a regular EDC weapon. Carries nicely and shoots quite well. Mission accomplished.

Bought a '69 30-1 for around the farm "bigger than a .22" kit gun type use. Love it, and the kids are learning to shoot it pretty well also. For actually new stuff, just traded a Kel-Tec P-11 in on a brand new M&P 9c. Only a few boxes through it, but really like it so far. Not much bigger than the KT, but so much nicer to shoot. Reliable so far, and accurate. No complaints from me!

Bought a LNIB 686-5 (4 inch) from a friend about 6 months ago. Great shooter! Also NIB 442 snubby in May as my EDC. Love it! Several hundred rounds so far with zero problems. Most recently a S&W MP 2.0 in 9mm because a wanted a higher capacity 9 mm semi for my "House" gun than the SA XDS that I have. I really love all of these, plus the 620 SW I bought several years ago, and I have had zero problems with any of my S&W guns.

442 (Model 178034) from the Performance Center with factory action work. Easy to carry in an ankle holster with excellent trigger and mechanics. Folks at the range always ask about it since they mainly see "black" semiautos.

How many of you who are happy with your new ones, own old ones to compare them with?

I own a 627 Pro which I am very happy with. And I also own 6 model 27's in the various barrel lengths. 5 of them are 27-2 models and the 6th is a 27-5 model. And after changing out the mainspring on the 627 Pro (light DA strikes with the stock spring) and changing the rebound slide spring to a lighter one I find that it shoots as well as my older guns. Looks are another thing, in that the older guns have the beautiful checkered top strap and the 627 Pro has a plain top strap and I'm not a big fan of the slab side barrel, but I wanted an 8 shot N frame revolver and the 627 Pro delivers. And it's trigger feels comparable to the older guns. The lock hole is an eyesore that I would rather not have, but has given me no problems whatsoever. I also think a fine nickel or blue finish is prettier than stainless steel, but that is personal preference and doesn't affect functionality.

With all that said, if S&W would make an 8 shot model 27 with a 4 or 5" traditional half lug barrel and finished in nickel (my preference) or blue, I would buy it in a heartbeat and think about selling the 627 Pro.

I really had a tough time deciding between a new Smith and Wesson and an older one. The last Smith and Wesson I bought was a Model 18 that I got used in the late 70's. Back then we really did not care much about when a gun was made so I have no idea when it left the factory. I also bought a brand new Model 28 in the mid 70's. And the third one I owned was likely an early version of the Victory model that had been sleeved and rechambered by Parker-Hale to 38 Special.
I would love to have all 3 of those guns back but there are usually no do overs on that sort of thing.
So what I am right now is a 65 year old who has not owned a Smith and Wesson since the mid 80's when I sold all three of those guns. My natural inclanation was to simply buy a good used gun. Then I got thinking that since it is 2017 maybe I ought to try a new one. I will find out when I finally get to shoot it if I find it a better gun than those old ones (realizing of course that I can barely remember shooting them). The one thing I know is that it will never have the double action feel of that old long stroke gun. But then I seldom shoot a revolver without cocking it anyway.

I've seen a few I would buy if they didn't have the ugly lock hole. Why didn't they hide it? If I didn't have to look at it I would disable it and move on. I saw the guns with plugs but they didn't look that good. I'll stick with the older stuff.

Bought a 442-1 last week and shot it on Saturday. I have a 36 no dash from my dad who passed away in 2010, but I've let my father in-law shoot it for now. Love em both, but would like a new 66 too.

I bought my first gun last week online and visited it yesterday as I have to wait 3 days to get it. It was beautiful. I am going for training very soon. I work in home health care in all neighborhoods and there are certain situations although careful in which I do not feel safe. Especially with the Antifa noise. I think I got a good price $349 for a moonclip 442 Performance center Pro. I am proud of finally becoming a gun owner.

I liberated this 460 XVR from waiting period jail last week, and after installing the Nill grips, took it to the range for the first time yesterday. I found it absolutely magnificent in every respect. The .45 LCs feel like shooting a .22, the 454 Casulls get your attention, and the 460s... well, let's just say they cleared my sinuses right out.

Not exactly a sensible choice for beginners, but the gun is more than manageable for experienced shooters, and it's a total blast... pun definitely intended! ;)

Just picked up this 627 PC on Saturday.

When 15 9mm is not enough! :D

Aside from a small nick on the grip, no problem. Have a NIB 586 L Comp on the way that I bought from a fellow forum member. I'll do a QC report when that comes in.

BTW how do you guys get the large pics to post?!

Last week, after thinking it over for two months, I bought the most expensive .22LR revolver known to man. Yes, I bought a 617-6. My friends thought I was crazy for spending that much on a .22 revolver. Well I took it to the range last Saturday, and fell head over heals in love with that gun. It is without a doubt my favorite revolver of all time. It functioned flawlessly and ate every brand of .22 ammo I had. It's the 4" model and it is incredibly accurate. Factory trigger pull was far better than expected. I own 13 revolvers and 5 of them are S&W. I thought I loved my PC 627-5. This is my new favorite. I know it will go in my range bag every time.

Picked up this NIB 438 last week and I'm really liking it. I have wanted a Bodyguard for a long time and finally made up my mind to buy one.

My new 686+ 2.5" barrell

Just purchased a brand new 686+ and absolutely love it. First 7 rnds thru it and I could cover all 7 with a half dollar. Naturally the action is smooth as butter just as you would expect from a S&W revolver. Now looking for a new 629.

I used to collect strictly HK pistols. Last year I bought my first modern S&W, the 686+ PC snubby, and all my gun purchases since the hen have been S&W revolvers.

I'm tempted by the 629 Hunter of 629 Stealth Hunter next.

What are the grips on each of those? That middle one really looks good with those grips. I got a 686 around Thanksgiving and I'm shopping for grips right now.

The 640 Pro on top has Karl Nill standard grain walnut grips for centennial J frames.

The 686+ PC snubby in the middle has Kim Ahrends tactical grips in cocobolo wood. I highly recommend them! Very comfortable in the hands.

The 686 Competitor has Karl Nill premium grain walnut grips.
