Which would you add to the collection, a 696 with blue case and items or a 646 that has had the backstrap textured with no extras......I am leaning toward the 646 since I already have a 624 and 24 in the short barrel versions......and until I can get my hands on a 610 the .40 will pinch hit.

I'd go for the 646. They will only go up in value. How much are you giving for it, if you don't mind me asking? I've always wanted one even if it is a niche gun.

If you had them both, which one would you shoot more? If both were lying on the table, I would be more inclined toward the 696, mainly because I dislike using clips in revolvers, and I like and am comfortable with handloading the 44 Special cartridge. Do you have good reasons that should make you favor one over the other?

Asking a grand..

Not really....just would like to add one to the pile. I love .44 sp but already have two....I love 10mm and already have a Delta and two Glock 20s. I don't have a .40 but do have a model 57 and 58 in .41, so it's just a matter of adding some to the pile for the grandkids...

In that case, the 646 gets my vote.

Asking a grand each......I would take both but I have my eye on something else and Mrs. Santa will be peeved if I use up the Christmas fund all on myself.....haha.

Understood. A 646 for $1000 is pretty hard to come by. But, you should be able to find a 696 for that for a while longer.

That is the kind of logic that makes sense to my addled mind......I have a message out to the seller to see if we can close the deal.

I want a 696 .44 Special myself,so that's my choice.

The siren call of the .44 Special is a hard one to resist.......but I can only take one this holiday season.......but I am fickle enough to be swayed......I just won't know until I go see them this week.

There's a 610 in the for sale area of the forum here.

That's a heck of a deal for $1K! It's a first production run, so it's one of the 4560 made during that run. 610 no dash with desirable 5" barrel. Missing the factory combats and probably no box or papers, but still...

Only caveat is that the gentleman only wants to do a FTF transaction in Southern Arizona; no sending of funds, no shipping, and definitely NO paypal.

On the other hand, the 646 is a much rarer bird that will definitely increase in value. If I'm not mistaken, the one pictured by the OP is the full underlug Ti cylinder version that is even more rare. Don't quote me on that, though. SCSW4 is lacking a lot of info on the 646.

What is "backstrap textured"? Any substantial modification of the gun would seriously decrease its value to me, even if properly done. Something to consider...
