Thanks for letting me join 😀. I have owned Sig's in the past so the S&W 9mm 2.0 is foreign to me. Is the 9mm 2.0 a shield? What's the difference in the Shield and the 9mm 2.0? What's the best most comfortable IWB holster?

Sorry for all the ?? But I can't find any information other than that the gun I own IS a shield?!?! I'm so confused.

Please help. Thank you.

From Top to Bottom:

M&P .380
M&P Shield 2.0 (9mm)
M&P Compact 2.0 (9mm/3.5" barrel)

'2.0' is basically just 'Version 2' of the series. Some minor (better) changes from the original versions.

I don't wear a IWB style holster so I can't help you there.

Welcome! There are several 2.0 versions of the M & P pistols - the full size, compact, subcompact (all double stack magazines) and the single-stack Shield.

There are as many opinions on holsters as...holsters. Probably best to try a few from a store or friends before purchase.

Ty! Hi from PA.

I have the subcompact.
The picture looks like the shield and 2.0 are
the same size lol.

Quickest way to tell if your Shield is a "2.0" the grip will be much rougher than your Sig. From 1.0 to 2.0 is minor detail changes on the same basic design: grips, trigger , sight choice.
As to picking a holster for somebody else, it's worse than trying to pick their clothes. Why should you avoid the box of discarded holsters the rest of us have?

I guess I need to join the holster collection club. Lol. The grip is much rougher than I thought. So does that mean it's a shield?

No, that means its a 2.0. I have the same gun in 1.0 because I don't like the rough grips, and shot my Shield in IDPA/BUG just fine without the "improvements". To confirm its a Shield, look at the odd 7 and 8 round mags unique to Shields. Everybody thinks they want the 8 rounders until they find out the separate rubber ring makes it a PIA to change in a hurry. :(

The Shield is narrower than the other M&Ps. I do believe it says 'Shield' on it somewhere. May be wrong. Google images maybe? Visit S&W website?

I love my Sig P320s, but just picked up an M&P full size in .45 and it's quite the nice pistol. It came with an Apex trigger and it's definitely smoother and crisper breaking than my P320 with Apex Advanced trigger. I like that.

Yep, it will say Shield 9 or 40 on the slide. If it's a 2.0 it will also show that like Eric's pic above.

If it's a 1.0 then no "version" marking.

The Smiths are great guns! I like the Don Hume H715-M WCS for my IWB concealed carry holster and own two of them for my 9mm and .40.

I also have the Bianchi 100 Professional for my CS40 and it is a nice choice too.

All shields are sinfle stack. They have four different versions of rhe shield. Plus some caliner choices.

The first generation shield. Have smooth-ish grips and were available in 9mm and 40 caliber.

Then they came out with the 45 caliber shield. This technically was the forst 2.0 generation although they did not initially label it as such. This had the very aggressive texture grip.

They then came out with the 2.0 generation of shield also available in 9mm and 40 caliber. (Along with the 45 ACP shield)

They then came out with the shield 380EZ. This is a much different gun. Still single stack and textured grip. Bit it is internal hammer fired and not striker fired. It has a longer barrel and a grip safety. The slide at the rear has protrusions to help aid in gripping the slide making it easier (hence the name "EZ") to rack.

The 380 EZ shield was followed up a year or so later with a 9mm version. Looks similar with same features as the 380EZ.

I believe all generation 1 and 2.0 all were offered with or without manual thumb safety.

So the shield line up is basically.

Generation 1:
9mm
40 S&W
There may have been a short lived 357sig option a available as well

Generation 2: rough texture and internal mod changes from initial generation

45 ACP
9mm
40 S&W

Two EZ models which have different slides, longer barrel and internal hammer fired with grip safety.
380EZ
9mm EZ

Actually the best way to tell is read what's stamped on the Left side of the slide.
It will read M2.0
