I've Had 5 days of overcast and rainy weather. I need to find some sun, warm weather, and warm water. Phoenix and Las Vegas are showing cold weather, so they are out. Key West is looking good.

If I head for key west, I'd fly. Don't want the hassle of a rental car, so I want a hotel in the main tourist area, where I could walk everywhere I went. I.e beach sightseeing and assorted.

Has anyone got any suggestions? I don't do B&B's. I don't want to make small talk with a bunch of strangers or the guy who' is changing the sheets. I'd like a nice hotel, if possible I'd like to keep it under $200.00 a night. Let's hear your thoughts, please.

Thanks,

Fred

My wife and I stayed at Pier House at the end of Duval st. We drove down but didn't use the car much. It's far enough south from folks pukin' in the street, the local competitive sport. Spendy though, rooms are about $300 per. Joe

I hear that Disneyland or Disney-world (whichever is in Florida) can only be afforded by gang-banger drug-dealers. My sis, BiL, Nephew and 4 tots-stayed there for a week back about 2 years ago--not cheap at all. Never been to Fla yet, but I hear its not as expensive to visit the Keys. A cheap but great eatery oft visited by a famed author-called: (something) Joes-is supposed to be great. Sorry I forget the exact name of the place? but anyone living in Fla should be able to steer you to it.

SLOPPY Joes???????????? The Author: Ernest Hemingway.

Ok we got the Pier House at $300.00 a pop. Anyone got anything else, a retired old man can afford? Please...

Thanks Joe.

Southern end of the Key...

Best Western Hibiscus Motel... just a room, breakfast and a pool...
stayed there when nephew got married on a boat in the gulf a few years bacj... all the way down on the south end... away from the crazy areas... but the whole place is walking distance... prices this time of year are about $240... a search may get a better rate then my quick scan...

I've been there but many years ago. We stayed in a campground on the beach. Key West is really small so everything is within walking distance. Sloppy Joe's is supposed to have been Hemmingway's bar but there is argument there from another bar. I don't remember it being rowdy with drunks but I guess in anyplace there can be out of control people who ruin it for others. Hopefully there will not be any of those. It will be nice to get some sun and relax. Have a good time!

Have fun Fred.
I hear ya' on getting the gloomy weather. Us too !!
Not a bad Winter here so far but i'm jonesing for some
warm sunshine as well.
Now to get the wife to leave the dogs for a week.......

Make sure we get pictures of that Black Marlin you catch.

staying on the strip can be pricey this time of year maybe a little cheaper on side street can always take a rickshaw to downtown. lots of stores the other old town bars are Capt. Tonys and the green parrot. Bring a good pair of walking shoes.

You might try some SCUBA diving while you are there. It gives you the sensation of flying through the water. How knows, you might even find some treasure from the Atocha that Mel Fisher left behind.

we will just wait patiently for an after action report...
Give Kermit's Key Lime Pie a try...mmmmm
OH and conch fritters...
and Yuengling beer...
can you tell I am stuck in Nebraska and it is snowing... have fun...

That sounds like a great trip....

Yeah, if you want warm weather guaranteed that's about the best there is. I'd stay miles away from Orlando.

My wife lived on the water there when her Dad was in the Navy. It was a different place then for sure.

Find the Duval street live cam and give us a warning.

The weather looks good so far. Charter a boat.

I wish I was there.

Most of all, Thaw out. ;)
