Suspected Model 60

The LGS has a stainless steel 5 shot round butt revolver with the S&W logo stamped on it that looks like any other Model 60. It does not have a pinned barrel and it is not marked 60 under the crane. In fact there is no marking there. How common is this? It is tagged as a model 60 and priced at $600.

If it isn't stamped "MOD 60" on the frame behind the yoke, it may be a Chiefs Special with an aftermarket hard chrome finish.

Model markings started showing up in 1958. Do you have the serial number or any pictures?

Is the bottom of the barrel and the lower left side of the grip frame stamped with an S? (Must remove the stocks to see the one on the grip frame.) Is the back of the cylinder stamped with a V?

If no to both questions, it's not a Model 60.

The non-pinned barrel thing is throwing me off, considering whether or not it's a plated, non-model marked 36.

Unfortunately the revolver had been sold by the time I got back there to take pictures and get the sn. Quite sure it was stainless and not plated. Perhaps a member here bought it and will post something about it.
