I'm getting old...really old...

Hey Les! Look closely at the pistol in your first photo. It is a classic Colt yes. But not a model M.

Edit. But is also a 1903.:D

I was gonna say Bogey's gun looks like a 1903 pocket hammer chambered in .38 ACP.

Yes, Bogart is holding two different guns in the photos.

Hard to tell the barrel length of the gun in the first photo and I can't see the shape of the grip frame, but it appears to be a 1903 Pocket Hammer. I guess it could also be a 1902 Sporting or Military. You can see the wedge near the front of the frame that retains the slide, which is a carry-over from the percussion revolvers.

The gun in the second photo is a 1903 Pocket Hammerless.

Those are great movie stills! Makes me want to break out the old Fedora and trench coat and have a smoke! :D

Colt quit making the .38acp pocket hammer in 1927, right around when the 1911 .38 super came out. The .38 acp and .38 super share the same cartridge dimensions which created some not good problems.
No doubt...
The slide comes off the back of the frame and the only thing retaining it is the wedge. Kind of a scary design... If the wedge lets go, you'd probably get hit in the face with the slide. I'll bet that'd leave a mark!

Star Wars came out in 1976. Anything or anyone before that was in the Dark Ages!

So my kids tell me. They were born from 79 to 84. The nice thing is, their kids treat them the same way!

No one will ever say that I was "Cool", but at least I've always been interesting!

At about age 4 I picked up my mothers Colt, pointed it at her and said "I am going to hoot you mother". I could not say the letter s at that time. I only heard about the time I almost shot my mother from then until I moved out of the house at age 19! When I was 16 sneaking into the house one early morning she took a shot at me thinking I was some criminal. That one was my fault also!

I still have the pistol and original box of ammo minus one round. May shoot it one of these days.

This! My daughter works as a cashier at a local grocery store. A customer came through her line wearing an Arlo Guthrie tee shirt- she not only knew who he was but had a nice conversation with the guy about him. The next customer wasn't thrilled because it held up the line!:D

When I was a kid I remember really being impressed with old farts who talked down to me to make me feel stupid. Just kiddin'.

I'm sure the kids today could name a lot of movies, actors, and attractive women that the old farts don't know and make them feel out of the loop too, so I suppose it works both ways.

What the heck, fellers. I don't see it getting much better.
With that said, some of the guys and girls I have tried to impart some knowledge/coolness to, occasionally give me some good feedback.
About the most we can hope for, I am thinking.

You're right about that. "Entertainment Tonight" got left on after the news and we didn't know who anybody was that they were doing stories on.

I hope to heck I'm getting old.

Next week I'm going back to the company I left in 2002 to train the current staff in some of the old school skills and experiences I had when I was working there. The gentleman who took my place unfortunately died suddenly 2 years ago and the firm hadn't really planned for cross-training or succession. They were thinking about having me come back to work but I told them I was retired and not interested in coming back to work. But in the interests of the profession and not letting old skills follow me to the grave I agreed to do at least 2 educational sessions.
