I’ve done quite a bit of looking online for a Commander-sized 1911 with alloy frame in 9mm, with little success. I’ve looked at S&W, Colt, STI, Para Ord, Kimber, Springfield, Sig Sauer, Dan Wesson, and probably some I forgot.

Rather than join one of the 1911 forums to ask this one question, there is probably someone on this forum that can help me out.

My first choice would be a S&W 1911SC in 9mm, but S&W doesn’t make that model in 9mm. A Colt XSE Commander in 9mm would work as well. Single stack frame, no light rail.

With all the catalog variations available, I feel I must be overlooking something, as it appears no one is making the gun I am looking for.

The Wilson, Baer, and some other “custom” guns are out of the price range I am looking for, $1000-$1500.

An original Colt LW Commander does not have the decent sights and other improvements similar to today’s XSE series.

The DW Guardian is almost there, but has the “Bobtail”, and I prefer the regular grip.

Ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have a Guardian in 9mm and really like it.

In fact, I traded it away a while ago and missed it so much that I had to "ransom" it back.

DW doesn't make a lot of 9s, so they are a little bit hard to find but well worth the effort: quality construction, great customer service, accuracy, reliability. What more could you ask for?

I have Colt Commander 38 Super and Combat Commander 9mm.Didn't like the original sights and put on Wilson Combat sights.Excellent results and look good too.

CZ75 or its amberdexterious brother the CZ85DB in 95mm luger.
Or the smaller very capable CZ82 or CZ83 in 9mm makarov, 32acp or 380acp all have the double action first shot.
I waited almost 30 years to get a pistol in 9mm I chose the CZ85DB.
I'm very happy with it.

Check out the 9mm 8 + 1, 24 oz. 1.2" wide 3" barreled "Kimber Sapphire Ultra II".

Depending on location, they run from $1,300 - $1,600.

Thanks for the replies.

I've got some 1911's.

Have owned Colt Combat Commanders in 9mm and .45, two Officer’s in .45. Also Kimber II in .45. Several others as well.

I don’t want to complicate things with a platform switch - no DA for the first round - so will stay with the 1911.

I’ll swing by the local dealer and see if he has a Kimber. If not he can order one.

I appreciate the suggestions!

If you don't have to have a full size frame there is the new Springfield Range Officer Compact 9mm. It is a CCO size gun, 4" barrel and a compact/Officers size aluminum frame (Springfield uses 4" slides/barrels on their midsize guns, not the traditional 4.25"). They're available now in the $800 range.

I have had a Kimber Pro-carry II for several years. It gets carried a lot, so much that the exterior slide is starting to look pretty worn. It is accurate and lightweight. I carry it in a belt slide holster and had an ambi safety installed since I am one of those sinister lefties. If you can't find a S&W the Kimber will do.

I can't ever remember seeing Colt catalog the 9mm in the Lightweight Commander. I believe they only made them in .45 ACP, however, one could get a 9mm all steel Combat Commander. Back in the day, I always wanted one, and Colt was the only manufacturer in those days worth having. None of the other makers were around or not making 1911 types that was not foreign made and of good quality. I did relent and buy a blue Combat Commander, and put a extended safety and Bar-Sto barrel in it. It was a decent gun, but mags were difficult to find. I wished I still had it.......

Thanks for all the suggestions!

My local FFL had a Springfield EMP in stock. Had never handled one before, but it ended up coming home with me.

Additionally, he put an order in for the gun I was looking for in the first place, the Colt O4662XSE LW Commander. I didn't know about it and the dealer said he only found out yesterday that they would be in production.
