Which 9mm 1911 for EDC

Well if you like Kimber, more power to you. I personally never said a high end 1911 was “needed”.

For what it’s worth, I carry a SA Hellcat most days too. I don’t carry 1911’s these days.

After 47 years of shooting 1911's and 37 CC'n them I sold my lw commander in 45 a few months ago do to several reasons maybe do to old age , slower mag changes and split times and find no reason to buy my own 1911 in 9mm but my wifes 9mm kimber is a sweet shooter but still a single stack .

My normal daily carry now is a M&P 4.25 40sw or 5" 40pc pc version . I only have a couple 9mm pistols incase the 40sw get to be hard to shoot well or control well !

Not a 1911 in the strictest sense but close enough for my application.

For years I carried a striker pistol for CCW. Lately I have been shooting more 1911 and will increase that this year so I wanted to have a CCW piece with the same order of arms that I could carry cocked and locked. I looked at a bunch of pistols and narrowed it down to a Sig P938 SAS which has nicely rounded corners. It also has something I had never seen before, the rear sight is buried in the slide and it has no front sight at all.

This was the leading contender but I still had some interest in #2, a Kimber Micro 9. I looked at a bunch of them on the internet until I ran into one that was particularly interesting.

I made the guy what I thought was a pretty low offer, expecting him to refuse and I would be of the hook but he agreed. I really like it. only 1/2 oz heavier than the Kahr PM9 I carried for a long time and has a 1911 look and feel including the ambi thumb safety.

Glad you got something you like and wanted...you might have liked the new CSX e-series...I traded my Sig 938 for it.

I know they are discontinued, but the Dan Wesson ECO pistols are great, including the 9mm version. Like all the DW products I have encountered, they are reliable, accurate, and beautifully made and finished. Thank goodness I had enough sense to buy both this and the .45 version.

Gentlemen,
I recently picked up a Springfield Commander size Ronin 9mm and have 600 rounds through it with no problems. What I like about is that I can change recoil spring weights easily. This is important as I have over the 6 or so months developed very severe arthritis in the left thumb area making it hard to rack heavily sprung 1911's. The Ronin comes with an 11# spring and I am up to a 14# spring which is working well. All my 1911's have red fluorescent tape on the back of the front sights to pick up the sights quickly. These sights are about 1/8" across and the Ronins are about 1/16". I'm trying to locate either a fiber optic sight that would be around 1/8" or gold dot sight of the same size. Either one would have to fit the factory dove tail. The Springfield customer service hasn't been any help with ideas. We're talking about a 78 year old shooter here! The gun is a keeper, I just need to fix the front sight. Any ideas?
Jim
Replacement sights for the Ronin are available from Dawson Precision. The Ronin front and rear sights are Novak compatible. I can also tell you, from personal experience, that getting the original sights off the Ronin is extremely difficult and fitting new sights requires a LOT of fitting. You might want to consider sending your slide to Dawson Precision (Dawson Precision) and having them do the work.

I just answered this question myself over the weekend with a Kimber Raptor Pro in 9mm. With the Raptor stippling on the front strap for extra grip and factory night sights it's a perfect carry gun. The target pictured is the first magazine fired through it. The second mag chewed out the rest of the red at 15 yards.
