I'm beyond ecstatic to announce that my wife and I are officially new grandparents!!
My son and daughter-in-law, who are in their late 20's, were advised by the doctor several years ago that they would have difficulty getting pregnant. Not impossible, but there are issues. Not to be deterred, they enrolled in the state foster program and after the prerequisite background check and training classes they opened their home to be foster parents. Their first year they had half a dozen children in and out of their home who they cared for temporarily as needed.
Just over two years ago they received a call from the local foster director asking if they would accept a 2 month old baby boy in their home for an indefinite period. They agreed and after a couple of months the situation evolved so that it looked like the baby would potentially be available for adoption. It broke our hearts that this perfect little boy was unwanted by his parents, but by then, we had all already fallen in love with the little fellow. It's been a long, tough, often frustrating legal haul working through the "system", but their efforts paid off and now at two and a half years old we officially have a new grandson! It was an awesome experience at the courthouse this week as about 40 of my son and daughter-in-law's family members filled up the courtroom in support of this young couple who have cared for this child as their own since he was two months old. As the judge pronounced the adoption final there was not a dry eye in the room!
I'm very proud of my son and his wife.
Here's a picture of my new grandson and I walking the halls of the courthouse as we were waiting to be called in for the final proclamation.
