Have a training class in NJ (30min out from NYC) all next week, drove up today.

Haven't seen a BBQ joint all day....stayed tuned to CNN for some kind of grits or sweet tea related incident that lands me on the news

Don't look for one. If you see one, run the other way. I'm sure there are a lot of Jersey girls who can cook, but they can't BBQ.

If by "cook" you mean "stop smacking their gum long enough to dial the local takeout place"...

Cracker Barrel has grits and sweet tea, though I'm not sure if they are in NJ. If there is a Panera bread - there's some off the toll roads in the "Oasis" spots set up - they'll have sweet tea.

Let us know if you get taken prisoner of war, Craig, and we'll try arrange a swap for some transplanted Yankees we don't need anyway !

According to some Texans, anything north of the Red River is Yankee-land.

New Jersey has got some good spots. It really is the garden state, just not where you are. I've had really good raspberries and sweet corn from New Jersey.

It's even got some strange woods that aren't that populated called the Pine Barrens. And some good coastal areas.

But I've been on these training trips myself, and you probably don't have the time and energy to go look at this stuff.

Barb,
I'm in Parsippany.
Haven't found a Greek diner (we actually have a lot of Greek and Lebanese where I'm from...familiar with the cuisine) but did find an awesome pool hall. There are definitely advantages to being in or near a big city I guess.

The 1st time I went north this southern boy was in for a rude awakening.
"Sweet tea please"
"We don't have sweet tea, I can bring you some suga'"
"Ummm, make it a Coke then"

I know the northerners think our tea is just shy of syrup but how "youse guys" can drink that ultra bitter unsweetened tea is beyond my grasp of reasoning.

I did see a show on BBQ where some guy has a BBQ place in NYC and had to build a smoke stack all the way to the top of the building. Apparently the New Yawkers were quite perplexed by the meat in the beginning, thinking the pink meant it wasn't cooked.
