June 4th 1942 the Battle of Midway began. Many consider it the
battle that changed the course of war in the Pacific against Japan.

June 6th 1944 was D-Day. The day we landed on the European
Continent. It was the beginning of the end for Germany.

Don't forget to fly your flags on June 14th.

Remember your Dad on June 18th.

June 22nd was an important day for me. It was the date in 1944
that the GI Bill was signed into law. I was able to graduate from
college that I probably wouldn't have been able too otherwise.

June 25th 1950 North Korea invaded the South and started the
Korean War. I was 15 at the time, shining shoes in a downtown
shoe shop. A guy working with me, a few years older, was a
member of the National Guard and they were called up for the
Korean War. I remember him saying he didn't mind the monthly
meetings and kinda enjoyed the camp in the Summer, but he sure didn't
sign up to go halfway around the world to fight in a war. A jeep
pulled up in front of the shop a few days later, and two MPs got out and took him away.

HAVE A GREAT JUNE!

June 17th, 1775 The Battle of Bunker Hill
June 28th, 1778 The Battle of Monmouth
June 25th, 1876 The Battle of the Little Big Horn
June 28th, 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife are assassinated.

Let's not forget Juneteenth. June 19th is traditionally considered the day emancipation was communicated to the last African-Americans in bondage. It's been a big deal here in Texas, where it happened, for a while and it's a national holiday now celebrating emancipation.

It's also my son's birthday! He's from a village about 50 km southeast of Ha Noi and apparently Juneteenth isn't a very big a deal in Viet Nam.

June 19th was my parents' wedding anniversary. Also, unless he breaks a leg, Andrew McCutchen will get his 2000th hit in the Major League. (That's baseball for those of you playing along at home.)
June 12th, 1975, was the day I walked through the gates to J&L Steel, By-Products Dept. My high school girlfriend's dad was the Personnel Director. I always thought he liked me until that day!

I have 2 birthdays in June.
June 22nd 1941 has always been my birthday according to my mother.
June 23rd 1941 is the date on my birth certificate. Several years after I married, my mother sent my birth certificate and some more documents home with me. I said, Mom this birth certificate says I was born on June 23rd. She said the doctor made the mistake on the birth certificate and since I was born at home it happened once in a while. Believe me your Mother knows when you were born. My birthday is still June 22nd, 1941 but when SS, Medicare, and etc. began to play a part in my life, naturally everything had to be changed to the date on my birth certificate.

Well, that's exactly what he signed up for. Did he not read the fine print? As a Viet era veteran, I have the same issue with NG who object to mobilization. Sorry, not sorry. Enlisted for the benefits, expect to go to war.

McGivern I am 88 now and will be 89 Feb 11th. Unlike you however, I
have been in many hospitals many times for various problems. I, also
like you have CHF. Been dealing with it a long time, and think I am doing
fine. I see you are a veteran. I use the VA Medical Center for all of my
medical needs.

I flipped the calendar and saw my entry that my late mother passed away on June 27, 1991 from Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS). She was only 60 years old. My parents had just made it to 40 years of marriage.

I have the utmost respect for history and important remembrances however June 21 is a special day for me. Outside of the "Summer Solstice" it is also the 3rd Wednesday, also known as "payday." 5 weeks between in this interval so I'll be shakin' down the couch for coins in the meantime. Joe

June 5, 1918, my Pop was born. He celebrated his 26 birthday in the engine room of a tanker steaming across the English Channel. He said it was a quiet watch but that the Germans provided fireworks the next day!

June 21-25 is the annual SWCA Symposium, in Phoenix, AZ. this year. Important dates to me and others every year-if you are a member and haven’t been to one you should go and if you’re not a member please consider becoming one.
Regards,
Witty
