I found myself this morning with a hammer strut that didn't have the spring & bottom plate on it. I'm not going to get into how this happened, but I did figure out a way to get the very stiff spring compressed and captured and it might come in handy for others. Since compressing the spring was beyond my hand strength, I needed another way. Clamped the strut in my milling vise and used the spindle to compress the spring. I put a nut with a slot in it on top of the spring to allow me to insert a pin in the strut between the springs bottom plate and spindle. Would work with a drill press too.

For the classic P-series Sig I fabricated a spring compression plate to allow controlled
disassembly-assembly of hammer strut spring roll pin retention situation. Simple wing nut spring compression, install / remove roll pin, no drama.

For installation in the frame, a notched brass punch fabrication allowed easy compression with the frame secured in a vise.
