Well I have been looking at the 4586 for awhile. Was thinking "A commander size DAO .45 would be cool." Learned of the 4586 thru this site.

Too bad I missed the sale of these a few years ago for less than $300, but one just popped up on Gunbroker for $349 starting bid. I placed the only bids and won it.

A high quality, all metal .45 with State Police heritage for $375 shipped! Unbelieveable. I like my 3953 and 6946 so Im looking forward to this one. More pix and range report when it arrives. :)

I saw that auction and thought about bidding, but now I'm glad I didn't. It went to a good home and will fit in nicely with the 3953 and 6946.

I watch all the 3rd Gen DAO auctions on GB and the 4586's have been opening for $450 or better for the last year and a half. I did find one early last year with three mags that was listed at a fixed price of $300 and I snagged that one on the spot. It had only been posted for 20 minutes and I'm sure it wouldn't have lasted much longer.

Even at $500 I think these things are 'sleepers'.

I paid $775 for a new 4586 that fires with the magazine removed -- and don't regret it for a second.

It's the only one of its kind I've ever seen -- and the seller, sadly, knew it. He doesn't know I'd have even gone higher, but he must have figured he was pressing his luck as it was... ;)

(Heh, heh, heh... The seller DIDN'T realize it had night sights -- and that they still work... ;) )

Thanks for the consideration Kaveman! I agree that it will go well with my other DAO's.

Also that the others I have been watching have been going for over $450. The inexpensive ones must be coming out as there is a very nice one currently posted for $389 with a buy it now of $399. (Item # 462951894)

This current one is in nicer condition, but I would still rather have the ex ISP gun. I think the marking is pretty cool.

I paid $475 for my 457 and don't regret it at all. I think these guns are really worth a lot more than they are currently going for. A new plastic pistol usually costs a lot more and I feel that you really get less.........

You done real good, my friend. Sigh! If only they could be imported into CA......

Always nice when you look back and see that you paid less than you wanted to pay! I've pulled three 4053TSW's off of AA in the last six months averaging $50 below my top bid,.......which is still a hundred less than what I see them listed for other places.

Your 'savings' will buy you a couple of mags,.......maybe a holster. All that stuff's free now. All you need to do is find it. Congrats!

When I found my 4566 for $389 with box/docs, and in excellent condition, I jumped on it like a possum on poo.
My LGS took in several 3rd gens from a guy and while it was on hold to make sure it wasn't hot, a retired GA state trooper who works there (fellow S&W fan) showed it to me.
I asked how long before it was available for sale.
I called them the day it was available for sale and asked them to hold it for me, and that I was on my way to buy it.
It came home with me. It wasn't nasty. A mild cleaning and a good lubing and it was ready for range time.
It now stands guard next to my Mossberg 590.

The 4586 is here. :)

My first steel 3rd Gen and its excellent. Looks, balance/feel in the hand, and absolutely outstanding trigger. The gun has either had a trigger job or been fired a lot as the trigger is very smooth and light for a DAO. The trigger on this gun is even better than the DA on my 457.

Slide to frame fit is still pretty tight. Night sights are dead. It has holster wear that it carries proudly. Came with one yellow follower magazine.

I cannot wait to get it to the range, but I injured my left shoulder and elbow, so I'm sidelined for a few weeks. I think .45 recoil is a no - no. :(

Here are some pix. I tried to use a contrasting background. Let me know if its too much.

And here it is with the other two 3rd Gen DAO's in my collection:

I like it too, as the Idaho stamp makes it way cool.:)

However, whoever was responsible for that billboard on the right side of the pistol, about reading the manual, should be strung up for drawing a mustache on the Mona Lisa. :(

A lawyer-type, I betcha.

I agree that it would be better without it but at least its not as bad as what's found on the side of some of my Rugers.

Good 45s are hard to resist! :o . :D
