Anyone use IMR 4759 with lead bullet 158 grain 357 mag loads? I use 4759 in cast lead loads for my 30-06 & 45-70. I'm a bit leary of using it in such a small case like the 357.

I ask because its listed for use in Lyman's Cast Bullet guide 3rd edition. Wouldn't 4759 be WAAAY too slow? Slower than 2400?

if it is listed in a lyman manual, i wouldn't worry about it. follow usual rules about starting low and working up. i use it for medium loads in a 22 jet. do you have an imr powder loading booklet? if not, check out the imr website. lots of loads on there too.

Could be wrong but I would think it is too slow for optimum .357 loads. A few folks I know use it with heavy cast bullets in Ruger only .45 Colt loads.

Are you sure they have SR-4759 listed for 357 loads. I would have thought that it would be SR-4756 the flake shotgun powder.
