I have a full sized M&P 357 sig. (best gun i've ever shot hands down. spot on accuracy.) though my pistol is chambered in 357 sig, i'm wondering about the safety of buying a S&W 40 cal barrel and swapping it out for more affordable target shooting. I definately prefer the 357 for personal defense, but it would be nice to save some change for target practice. I've gotten shady info on the subject, but just wondering if it will fit. btw, i hope this is not a repost. Any help would be greatly appreciated....Thanks.

Suggest you just buy the S&W barrel for your size frame, from your dealer or S&W.
Preserves the warranty, and drops right in. Use same mags.

So the hole in the slide for the barrel is big enough to accompany the bigger 40 cal barrel?

The outside diameter of the 9mm/357 Sig/.40 barrels is the same. So's the hole in the muzzle of the slide and the recoil spring.

Thanks alot for the helpful info. I contacted S&W and was strongly advised not to do so. But I figured that if my gun was designed for the high pressure 357 rounds, then it could surely handle the lower pressered 40 cal rounds.
