My Shield 9mm is one of my CCW guns, and as such I feel obligated to train with it at the range fairly often. Mine is stock excepting that I added Meprolight Tritium sights to it. I have to say, after having owned the gun for two years, I literally cannot find any fault with it.

In terms of accuracy, the Shield 9mm is about what you would expect for a small 9mm carry gun. It is very accurate at self-defense distances, i.e. 10 yards or less. I can reliably hit near the center of a head-size target at 10 yards pretty much every single shot. Obviously with fixed sights and combat sights and its overall size, the Shield is not a target competition gun and it is not designed or intended to be one.

My Shield has never jammed. Not once. It always goes bang.

Some Shield owners have complained about the trigger, others not. I am in the latter category. The trigger is fine and seemed to smooth out with the first 100 rounds or so.

I like the thin profile of the Shield. It feels great in my hand and it is great to carry too. And it does not have the hated boxy profile of a Glock.

My Shield has a manual safety. Say what you want, but I will not own a semi-auto without a manual safety. Period. Guess that harkens back to my Army days carrying a 1911 all the time.

The Shield is very easy to strip down all the way to removing the firing pin for cleaning the striker channel. The striker channel does not collect much gunk and this probably only needs to be done infrequently. I enjoy doing it and it is even easier to do this than even the Ruger SR series guns.

Overall, for the money it is hard to imagine a better handgun than the Shield. I like this one enough that I plan to pick up a second one, well, just because.

Had my shield about a year now. Wish I could say that i never had a failure to eject...... I had problems early on with some brands of 115 gr ammo. Found that if I stick with 124 grain that I have no problems. Great shooting little pistol though. My full size M&P9 and my M&P 22 Compact have both shot anything that I feed them.

I agree with the above positive comment about the M&P Shield9.. In my opinion, the shield exhibits the excellent craftsmanship that made S&W famous. I shoot my Shield 9 better than I do my 442.It is comforting to still be able to buy American made. I have had only one warranty repair experience which was several years back on a Chiefs special 45 ACP which was very timely (2 weeks) and didn't cost me a dime and Fed X picked it up and returned it to my house.

Been wanting a 9mm. Shield for some time now to go along with my Colt Cobra for carry. Last Sunday I went to the Pyramid here in Memphis, the Bass Pro had the Shield for $399 which ain't that great a sale but with $40 in points for having a Bass Pro card It was as good a deal as I could find. Liked the feel, bought it, took it home to clean it and off to the range I went. I put 150 rounds of mixed 115 gr. FMJ through it without a hitch. Accuracy was well within reason, hit pretty much where I pointed it at 7 1/2 yds. Very easy to clean and comfortable to carry in a DeSantis 127 IWB. Loading the magazines can be a little tough on your thumb and fingers.

The Cobra might be relegated to days when I'm just in an old fashioned mood.

I also agree that the Shield is the ideal CCW. If I could change anything, I would have it slightly larger. I would prefer a slightly longer grip so I could get my fingers just a little more real estate to grip and I would have made the slide also slightly longer, maybe another 1/2" to 3/4".
I know I am splitting hairs but I can dream.....

I don't have the Shield but do still have my Cobra. I bought it new in 1968 for an off-duty piece and had the hammer bobbed for an undercover assignment. It still shoots great but is not carried much anymore.

Then get the Shield 45, it is exactly that.....honestly, for CCW I prefer the Shield 9, strictly because of size.
I would prefer the Shield 9 to have the grip girth of the Shield 45 though.

Try the Talon "Rubberized" grips for the 9mm Shield. I put them on mine, and it filled out the grip just perfect. I highly recommend it!

I have had my 9 Shield since last Fall. I have Green Laserguard sights which limit the holster choices. No real problems with the Shield. In the beginning it did go out of battery about three times over several boxes of ammo. But it goes right back into batter as you pull the trigger. Increase the mag capacity by one round each Smith mag with a Magguts kit. Add an Ulticlip Holster for IWB holsters and you're set.

I read your post in the "other" forum. The Shield is a mighty fine firearm. Mine is the NTS version.

Thanks for posting. We were in Memphis today looking for things to do. Ended up catching a Redbirds game then thanks to your post learned there was a really cool Bass Pro Shop to go to. No offense but I hope to never have to spend time in Memphis ever again.

Was presented a Shield 9MM as my retirement gift at work two years ago. At work I carried a Glock 23. The Shield is an excellent pistol. Put a Pachmyer grip sleeve on it give the grip a little more fullness. Use the 8 round magazine. Carry it in a Wild Bill's Concealment fusion paddle holster. Easy on and Off. Carried my Glock 23 in this type of holster. Best paddle holster I have found.

Which magazine are you using? I have the longer (8 round) in mine, and it makes it a bit more difficult to carry. It does make the grip long enough to get my entire hand on it.
