In Process... A Pre-27 357 Engraved Masterpiece in the Making [UPDATED 12/22]

What an education!! Thanks Richard, and Phil!! The main thing I learned from this is, better leave any projects to a professional!!! First, without the correct tools, the job would probably be impossible. Next, just like owning a Steinway grand piano wouldn't make me a concert pianist, just owning the correct tools wouldn't make me an engraver!!

But I can appreciate watching the hands of a master creating a wonderful artifact, and this is a great video, as was the first. Keep them coming!!

Best Regards, Les

All I can say is WOW! What artistry goes into a project like this. Brian Powley just finished the engraving on my first engraved gun last week and returned it to Hamilton Bowen for clean up before it goes to Turnbull for coloring so I am fascinated by the process Phil shows.

I'm at a loss to figure out how I missed this thread on its inception!

Fascinating and educational. What a pleasure to watch a talented individual at work.

Very impressive, thank you very much for showing us the progress. For grips I would think it would be hard to go wrong with something from Kieth Brown.

impressive... the videos are incredible... takes me back to watching my late father tooling leather... the subtle efforts that create amazing results always were just a bit out of my reach... watching a master at work is a true joy... can't wait for the final results...

Richard, I really like how the sight has been cut back to resemble a RM...

Mathew, I too like the sight, but in this case it is just a standard post war front sight treatment (relatively flush with the end of the barrel) and the "cut back" you see is because of the angle of the photo, not any modification to the barrel...:)

VERY nice. The Lyndon McKenzie influence shows. About 25 plus years ago I had Bob Evans do an early 1911 for me; full coverage plus gold inlays. Took a few photos of my son holding it about half completed.

I'm proud of both of them.

Now if I could only chew gum and post pictures...

That is going to be one sweet family treasure. I love the videos and how a true master makes it look easy. Your are breathing new life into a piece of history.

Well, I kept hitting the "Like" button but only one Like appeared.

Congratulations. That is a beautiful project. I have pursued some custom gun projects in the past, and I know it takes a lot of stamina to see them through.
