I am searching for an older S&W model 10 with the 4” heavy barrel. Looking for a police trade in with good internals and a worn finish for a Cerakote project.

I found that Buds has some for $319 shipped. I figured I’d ask the experts out here if anyone knows a place to get one for less before I ordered from them.

That's about as good a price as you're likely to find these days on one that isn't completely beat inside or out.

Yes, with diligence and patience you might find a suitable candidate for less; then it's just a matter of if there's a dollar value to your time.

You should not have much difficulty getting a 4" HB Model 10 under $350 (millions were made). Next gunshow go with $350 in 50's and $20's and you should come home happy. Joe

Another vote for purchasing one from Bud's. Bought a four inch Model 10 heavy barrel from them 2 years ago for $290. Lots of holster wear but mechanically sound. Don't see many HB's at gun shows.

I went to Bud's web site to see what they have and found a 4" M10 for $238 cash. It even says make offer. I can't find a picture or better description except "50 to 60%" condition.

That sounds pretty reasonable if you are not necessarily set on a heavy barrel. Otherwise, a 70 to 80% M10-6 for $319 sounds good.

If you're going to refinish it, you might try one of Bud's $238 ones. I can't remember now where I read it, but those are reimported by Century Arms Int'l and have some writing on them.

Now that I think about it, it must have been in a thread around here somewhere.

Either one of those CIA guns, or the $319 Aussie trade ins, - you won't beat that deal anywhere. If it were me, I'd get (another) of the Aussie trade ins for $319.

Friend bought a very nice one last week from Buds. Locks tight finish and stocks good. It reads c.d.c stamped beneath right bottom of cyl. After fees shipping less than $340 It's a very nice 10. I think it was one of those $284 plus models

FWIW I bought one of the $219 Model 10-8 Heavy Barrel on GB about a month ago. It was mechanically almost perfect, and a lot better condition externally than was advertised. The guy still has them listed for that price...and if you are interested in refinishing anyway....

If Bud's guns are ex-Australia PD revolvers, that would convince me to get one.

I have an M10-7 Australia PD re-import that is in excellent mechanical condition. They obviously know how to take care of their gear.
