Any recommendations?
I am looking for a good in the back IWB holsters for a SD9ve.
I am looking for one that has the grip pointed down towards the right side that won't dig the slide edge into my back when I sit down
I am right handed but have some shoulder problems when I carry on the right side so I cross carry on my left side but the grip sticks out some.

Please reconsider the use of a small of the back holster. You will have a large piece of metal and plastic at the base of your spine. If you fall or get knocked down on your back that large lump will probably injure your spine because it will be the first thing to hit the ground.

I dislike appendix carry, but in your case it sounds like a viable option.

Small-of-the-back holsters can be very dangerous & uncomfortable when sitting. Like the above post indicates, you might want to reconsider before laying out your hard earned cash.

As much as small of back appeals to me, I would never carry that way. I have had 3 surgeries on my lower back in the past 23 years. The last one fused several vertebrae and have titanium plates and screws. If I were to fall (a good possibility in Michigan, in the winter) or get knocked down, I would probably never walk again. Not worth the risk.

Ditto all above.................

Maybe a vertical cross draw holster worn at 8 O'clock vs. many cross-draws holster designs that are at a 45 degree angle.....and worn at 9-10 O'clock.

Not the fastest .... but push the gun/holster to 9 O'clock position on your belt w/ your left hand as you reach across with your right.

Holster update

I found out recently and painfully about in the back holster.
I got a small ambidextrous IWB leather holster that I could wear either on my left side (cross draw) or in the small of the back.
I slipped on some ice and ended up with a large bruise on my tail bone and very sore for a couple of weeks.:(

Very good comments regarding "back carry" that I had not considered.

You could also consider a "4-way" holster. I believe Tagua, Cebeci and Triple K make them (as well as others). It is essentially a leather holster that can be used as a small of back, Cross Draw, OWB or IWB holster. While they would not be my first pick of holsters, they are pretty universal and give you the opportunity to try out numerous styles for $35-45.

Small of the back holsters were specifically prohibited by my agency. IIRC it was due to the risk of spinal injuries in traffic accidents. I never reccomend them. Regards 18DAI

I'm not a fan of shoulder holsters but even less of a fan for behind your back holsters as others have already commented on .. but in your case a shoulder holster might be the way to go ..

If I understand correctly, you are looking for an IWB *** palm-out "cavalry-style" holster. Most everyone has told you of the dangers of the *** carry, but if you add to that a palm-out design you are adding another danger. When you draw you will end up pointing the gun at your body to get it aimed to the front of you. I have seen holster makers that refuse to make these. Maybe I misunderstood you, but if I didn't, please think about this.

Another reason small of back carry is not agood idea. A story I will try to make short.
Years ago a buddy of mine had a small confrontation with a much larger man than himself, well things escalated very quickly and situation went to worse before he even knew it. He was carrying small of back, he did not think at the beginning of the confrontation he was in any danger or had to be defensive what so ever. Well the bigger guy just snapped out of nowhere and knocked my friend on the ground and was immediatly mounted on top of him just smashing the day lights out of his face. He fell hard on his gun, messed up his back really good, and also he was helpless trying to pull his weapon stuck underneath him. He was beaten unconscious and could not stop the attacker. He never carried small of the back after that "small confrontation"

I have a Galco small of the back holster for my Glock 19/32 pistols. It is a fine holster for day hiking and trudging through a shopping mall. I believe most any type of holster and handgun combo has the ability to cause injuries to the wearer under extreme and unfortunate circumstances.

I have Galco, Small-of-the Back holsters for 1911 and Sig 220's. If you are standing or walking the majority of the time the are very comfortable. The Galco design is a butt up/palm in design. When drawing the weapon, the muzzle never sweeps your body. This was my regular evening walk holster for several years. when positioned slightly to the strong side, it was one of the quickest draws of all the holsters I own. The type you described is called by Galco a Middle-of-the-Back hlster and is a all round bad Idea! I'm not trying to be a smart ellic but, Do you fall while carrying often? I have dove on the ground, rolled off vehicles and equipment, and laid down in a very big hurry, all while carrying. I refused to carry while I recovered from a stroke and my walking and balance were impaired, but falling has not happened while carrying.
