Hello all, have a 6.5" arriving soon. Only have the store pics to go by, but it looks pretty good. Serial number ABZ0350. I am sort of a P&R guy, but have been looking for a 586 4" side plate stamp also. I saw this and said why not, lets see what it looks like in person (should arrive in a couple days).Seems like an early S.N. to me. I also like the wood color. It wasn't even on my radar. Yes, i know. I now need the 4" and Lew 3" . Thanks

Congrats, I have a 3” and a 21-4- both sold me on the 44 spl. While I reload, would love if 44 spl was more popular and available ( both ammo & revolvers)

Thanks, we shall see how it looks soon. Yes
I agree, this seems to be a cartridge that you don’t hear about too often anymore.

Recently took my 24-3 to the range.
Fond of the 44 special cartridge. But , I generally take one of my 624’s or the 686.

I’d forgotten how smooth and astoundingly accurate it is.
Hope you enjoy yours as much.

It was an exciting era when S&W announced the 24-3!
They did a lot of things right, despite the lament for the loss of P&R. This was the same era when S&W introduced the 586/686, the 10” silhouette version of the 29, and finally got the cylinder throats right for the 25-5 45 Colt.

My dad, brother, myself and a few friends always enjoyed these fine revolvers, and remember fondly how great they all shot!

It’s so much fun making big holes without blowing out your eardrums. I love the deep, throaty “boom” of a mid-pressure big bore, especially if accompanied by the beautiful aroma of Alox lubed cast bullets on top of a charge of Unique or Bullseye!

Nice score! I hope you love that new 24-3!!

From what I’m reading, it sounds like these were made in 83-84. 7500 total of that 4875 were the 6.5 and the rest were 4”.
