Incredibly fast pit stop!

Its hard to tell, but I count twenty two. Maybe the extra ones I saw were vapor trails?
 
they are fast but one of these days something bad is going to happen with that many guys out in the open when a car comes down the lane and loses it. a bunch of guys are going to get hurt.
 
a few years ago they did refuel the F-1 cars in the pits for a couple of years but it didn't last long. you start with a full tank and that is all you get and that is normally enough to complete a race.

Didn't know that. I always thought they had to refuel at some point. Learn something new every day.
 
i always loved watching the top fuel guys rebuilding the engine between rounds, a lot of hands going a lot of directions on a really hot motor, push it to the starting line and it all works

That's unbelievable. In racing I've seen they only let a few people over the wall during a stop. I've never seen so many people around a car. Whatever type of racing it is, they are GOOD!:)
 
A typical pit "dwell" time in F1 is around 2.5 - 3.0 seconds.

Refueling just got too dangerous. The same team had a driver motor off dragging the fuel hose. That caused come clenched cheeks in the pits and race control.

Been watching F1 since the mid-sixties and I sure am glad to see a lot of the improvements in safety that have been made, especially in the last twenty years but i also think some of the changes haven't helped the sport.

By your title, I thought you were talking about a restroom break!:eek::rolleyes:
 
Red Bull had several pit stop during races last year timed at 1.8 seconds to change all four tires.

F1 did away with refueling (again) a few years ago when there were 4 incidents of cars leaving their pit boxes with the fuel hoses still attached, two resulting in major fires. One crew member was caught by the hose, slammed to the pavement, and had to be airlifted to the hospital. Good thing he had a helmet on.

Another reason for helmets is collisions do occur on pit lane sending pieces of car flying at high speeds in all directions.

The F1 pit lane is not a place for the faint of heart or weak of mind.
 
Motorsport of any stripe is an inherently risky business. People will get hurt, accidents will happen.
The incredible speed & momentum involved pretty much puts the equipment right at the limit. Rules get tweaked each season to reduce the likelihood of fatalities, but the primary limiting factor is the human. The day is comin' when the race cannot run any faster without having bodies actually come apart on impact. Or scrambling all their insides.
I love racing.
I especially love motorcycle roadracing.
