Great forum! This is my first post. Here goes...

My new M&P 9mm has three "indentations", each about the size of a BB, on the underside of the slide just forward of the ejection port. They seem to be machined and coated.

A S&W gunsmith says they are "bedding points" used to hold the slide in place during production.

I've checked three other M&P 9mm's and none have these "indentations". The S&W rep responded that the other guns may have come off a different production line, but I find it hard to believe that the production process varies that much from line to line.

Has anyone else seen these "indentations"???

Allegedly, they id the machine used to perform the machining operations on the slide. That way, if there's ever any issues at any time, only slides with a specific number/location of holes need be recalled.

We were told in the armorer class that those markings identify the CNC machine/operator/manufacture date information.
