indentify brass ?

I picked up about 50 brass at a range I thought was 38 spec. the markings on the head .Not in order (w c c 6 8 9 )and ( R A 4 8 ) there a little longer than a 38 spec. but fit in the die holder.. thanks

Western Cartridge Company and Remington Arms. Both make/made ammunition for the military. The two digits after (not sure why your WCC has an extra digit) indicates the year of manufacturer, i.e. 1948.

US military brass.

WCC = Western Cartridge Co. Winchester is still using this headstamp. 689= June 1989

RA = Remington Arms , 48 = 1948.


They'd have to be .38 Special as they did not heapstamp any .357 magnum this way.

I have some RA 48 rounds, they are military 38 spl. The ones I have are round nose FMJ, pulled one and it weighed 160 gr. These are all standard 38 spl length.

How about a WCC 1987
I also have WCC 87

That is the only Military I have with the complete year date stamped on it.

The one I was looking for is probably not Military.
I have a FC 38 SPL +P+.

Lots of WCC Dates I have cases from 68, 70, 71, 72, 81, 87, 89, and 90.

I try and set back an example of each different head stamp.

Have a bunch of WCC loaded and empties. About on par with any other commercial load, good brass for reloading although it may be a bit thicker, as WC seated flush leave a bulge, at least the few I loaded with WC did. It is not crimped and can be used like any other brass.

I have never seen the full four digit year, not the three digit month+year. I imagine the good idea fairy strikes the management now and then and they decide to change their headstamp for a bit, then i goes back to normal. Military issue 9mm you pull out of ammo cans today is stamped WCC, (NATO cross), and 10, 11, 12, etc. It comes in the same white foam holders that commercial ammo does, though the outer box is brown.
