New here but seriously considering a purchase of a 629-2 Mountain "revolver". Looks to be in good condition. Can any of the S&W Gods help me with a fair price range and any other info that might be helpful.

Thanks

Alright, 78 hits and no will opine? Here goes: You gotta give us a lot more info to make that call. When you say "good" condition to us that means its not "excellent", much less "as new". "Good" really ain't that good in NRA condition terms... Does it have the box, papers and accessories? Has it had a trigger "job" and if so who did the work? Number of rounds fired? Barrel length? Nobody can give you an answer without more info and PICTURES help a lot. Gunbroker is a good place to look at going rates. Look at the SOLD auctions, not just the listings. It'll give you a pretty good picture of the current market. Did I mention PICTURES? Oh yeah, I did. Everybody here loves S&W porn...... Good luck and let us know what happens. Almost forgot: WELCOME to the S&W Forum. H

Welcome to the forum. I have a 629-2 Mountain Revolver too, and because it has the slim 4" barrel, I find it carries well and I like shooting reloads in it that are "mild" on the 44 Magnum scale. It was the revolver that started the "Mountain Gun" graze in other calibers. In like new condition with original box, papers, tool kit and original equipment Pacmyer Gripper grips, I would value mine at almost $1000. Some people would say I'm overpriced, but what does new 629 cost with the lock and MIM parts?

There's one for sale in the for sale section of this forum. Seller wants $1250, it has also been for sale on another fourm for quite some time for the same price. He states it's NIB, it may be, but it looks far far from New. Anyways, I wouldn't pay more than $800 and I'm in CA. Good Luck.

Thanks for the info guys. Decided to purchase it. Paid $700 plus shipping. I always cringe when I hear people buy revolvers untouched but there it is I just did it too!

Will get pics and an update as soon as I can get my hands on it
