I just purchased a model 10 in new codition. The blueing is absolutly pristine,no marks scratches or holster wear. The person I purchsed it from told me that he shot it once[6 rounds total]it's been in his bed room end table for 30 yrs.Everything on the gun is tight,no marks on the forcing cone.no wear on the hammer & the colors on the trigger & hammer are some of the best I've seen. The grips show no wear.
This is a square bottom, ser# D9129XX.My question is.I paid $500 was that a fair price as I'm not into collecting guns I have no idea of tha market value these days, also Would I be able to use +P ammo.My thinking is because it's an all steel K frame I will be OK.
Thanks to all for any help.

You can shoot ANY factory ammo marked 38 Special. No ammo maker would sell ammo that was unsafe in the average gun and the K frame Smith is above average.

I think $500 is a lot for a Model 10.

You can shoot any .38 Special ammunition in it. $500 is a bit pricey for a model 10, but I have seen similar prices where I live for excellent condition handguns. Part of that may depend on if you see many of the firearms in your area. What is interesting where I live is that you are seeing more of the older, blued or nickeled revolvers that are in very good condition at higher prices than you might expect. It seems that many are like I am. At one time we glanced at the revolvers then went to the semi automatics and now are looking more for the revolvers. I think that demand has driven up some of the prices at least in this area.

Thanks very much for your input.I do go to many of the gun shows in northern Pa & this gun was in such great shape I could't pass it up.The true beauties are starting to disappear I haven't seen any mod10 2" in this shape in quite some time.

So what? You over paid for a Mod 10. You're not the first. Model 10s have no mercy in their attraction. Post us some photos of your gun.

When I first read your post I didn't know that the gun was a model 10 with 2" barrel. I really don't think you over paid at all in that case because the current gun buying craze has driven up the price on all snub nose guns because that's what everyone wants right now. I was at a pawn shop in my town two weeks ago and the had a model 10 with 2 inch barrel and it was pitted badly and then rebued in flat mat blue and looked aweful and they wanted $400 and would move off of that price.

Congratulations I think you have done well.

Thanks to all who responded.I would love to post but I lost my camera recently & don't have the bucks to replace it [TAX time]Again Thanks

I can't remember the last time I have seen a 2" model 10, but between Waco Texas area gun stores and gun shows it has been years. They are nice revolvers. That and a model 10 with the 3" barrel and round butt are two I hope to acquire down the road.

The 2" guns do bring a premium. I still think $500 is pretty high but I have seen them selling up there.

If you are happy with the gun that's all that really matters. Check out my signature line.

I agree entirely with your signature line. To go back to 1985 and buy every AR-15 I could when they were selling here for around $400!

The killing on the rifles I could make now.

I haven't seen very many snub nose smiths here in the NW over the last few years and those you do see don't last long even when they are in ruff condition. I did find a 10-5 2" RB with a very nice finish right after the election….. a bit more end shake than one would like but never the less I snagged it a what I thought was a very fair price of $350.00

I agree the SaxonPig in regards to the ones I let get away........ enjoy your new gun

I remember getting my SKS at a gun show here in Waco for...$85. My Maadi about 10 years ago for $200. I am shocked at the prices they go for now.

Dont worry about what you paid on this one. I have found if you buy fairly often you will average out! I've bought stupid high and then found a real bargain later! Buy what you want, they dont make these anymore!
