I picked up a real nice 25-5, 4 inch, blue, pinned, not recessed. About 95+ with no issues. In "45 Colt Ctg" on the barrel.

Ser# is N656XXX.

Can someone please advise the year of production? It also seems the 4 inch guns were rather scarce.

Thanks!!

It was built in approximately 1979 to 1980 according to the SCSW. 4" 25-5s are not scarce but they are in demand so you don't see them collecting dust in gun stores.

Thanks K22fan,

I had been watching for one of these for the stable and was lucky enough to finally snag one that is very nice.

Off to the range!!

You will love it. You can handload it up a little if you wish. That was Dekalb County Ga's police departments' issue weapon before they went to the Beretta nines.

You do realize there are Forum "rules" about posting threads like this without photos ! ;) ;)

25-5

I have one of the Dekalb co guns that was issued to Chief Burgess, in excellent condition

Guys, I am truly sorry for violating the picture rule but I am on the road. I will post pics when I get home tomorrow.

Tune in tomorrow evening!!

Heck, I think it worked. Easier than some.

Anyhow, I shot it today.

Put about 50rds at 25yds. It does not like the 200gr cowboy loads at 750fps. These are sized to .452

It did group about an inch with jacketed factory stuff from 225 to 260gr at about 1000fps. These are sized about .451

I will try the 250gr boolits at .452 to see if they do better.

One reason I wanted a Smith double action in 45LC was to shoot the cowboy stuff for fun.

Anybody have a favorite goto load for a 25-5?
