I posted on here awhile back about getting a new 627 UDR (Bloodwork) revolver
Well since then, I have ran into two (yes two) older 627 UDR revolvers.
I am trying to figure out something about the models.
The one claims that it is the original 627 UDR, with a serial number of JBSxxxx, and it is a 627 - 3, unfluted cylinder.
The other is a HMAxxxx, and is a 627 no dash, with a fluted cylinder.
I have searched on this forum, and found a lot of information.
I know in the movie Bloodwork, that the revolver in the one scene appears to be a fluted cylinder model.
I also found that many sent the revolvers back to Smith and Wesson to have the other cylinder (fluted/unfluted) matched to the revolver.
After waiting all this time for one, and buying the new one, I cannot believe that these are coming up for sale.
Can someone please fill me in as to what is what with these?
I am a little confused.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The HMAxxxx guns are 627PC models. The 627-3 are the new frames so were built later than the HMA guns. There are a lot of threads here about the Bloodwork guns and lots of pictures. Don't pass them up!

Nightowl - thanks for the information. I have read everything that I can find on this site. It is still confusing as some say that the original ones were the HMA serial numbers and had the unfluted cylinder.
The one in the movie had the fluted cylinder, as the one that I mentioned does. Also, a member on here stated that they had the HMA serial number range and that theirs had a unfluted cylinder.
So I gather that S&W made this revolver, with the first ones being the no dash models, with either a fluted or unfluted cylinder in the HMA serial number range.
Then they made another run with the 627 -3 PC, that came with the unfluted cylinder, with the JBS serial number range.
And then other runs, with the lock frame being the latest.
So, it appears that the original models were the no dash ones, with the HMA serial range, with either fluted or unfluted, depending when they were made.
This is confusing.
