First off I am new to forum. Thank you for for providing a site like this.

I am seeking information on old S&W revolver. I think it is a pre model 10 from the 50's. It is in fantastic condition with the exception of slight holster wear on the sides of the muzzle end. It has a 4" barrel and is chambered for 38 special. The serial number is C20XXXX. What is the year of manufacture? What would it be worth?

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Yes, a pre-10 from around 1951. Someone with a database will be along to narrow that down for you. Value wise, I'd put it in the $400-500 range. This is the most produced revolver in the world with over 6 million made.

Your M&P seems to be in fairly high condition, probably would sell in the $400 range at a gun show. C20xxxx would date its shipment to be around mid to late 1952. The grips are not original, probably from after 1970. That will affect its value.

Thank you folks for the information/responses. This particular revolver was carried by a friends father when he was an officer back in the 50's. Judging by it's condition I don't think it has seen much use and the action is still smooth at silk.

post-war S Series K Frame

My research points to this being a post-war S Series K Frame. # is S 8365.. Is that about right? Thanks

Everything looks right in the pic...long action hammer, LERK, etc. Grips look lacquered over including the silver medallions.

Yes. It probably shipped in August, 1946.

The Magna stocks are correct and probably original. The serial number, minus the S, should be stamped on the inside of the right panel. They have had some sort of shiny finish added to them.

A PM with the full serial number would help my research on these guns, if you would be so kind. Thanks!

Welcome! You started off with a good one. Now hang around a while and you will see a lot more S&W's that you will have to have one just like it for yourself. The urge just grows and grows. And at some point, you will tell the same lie that most of us have told, "I'm finally through or I I've bought my last one". Its ok, everybody understands. I bought my last one probably 20 guns ago. You will also gain a wealth of knowledge here.
