I just recently came across a smith and wesson 357 magnum. I don't know what model it is but I do have a good description. It is a 6 shot cylinder 4 inch barrel blue finish and I found what I think is the serial number on the butt of the frame and it is 6D72xxx. Can anyone give me any info. on this pistol like age model etc.?

Looking at a 1980 date. A picture or better description such as what type of sights, shrouded ejector rod could help on model. Based on the serial number I would think it's a model 13. Open the cylinder and on the frame under the yoke should be the same serial number as on the butt and another number. The other number is the model number.

Yep, there is a model 13-2 .357, sounds like that's what you have.

A reasonable price range would be $350 to $500, depending on exact condition.

Exactly what I thought so I had it run by the local sheriffs dept. came back clean.

When dealing with someone you do not know well, it would be prudent to assume any "too good to be true" deal involves "hot" merchandise.

A 13-2 in good shape for 100 bucks, at that price I'd be concerned that the gun was stolen. One thing is certain, if it wasn't stolen before your purchased it it's stolen now because at that price you flat out stole it, in my area a bit of a beater would start out in the 350 to 400 dollar range.
