My father recently passed away (94 yrs young). I inherited several of his guns. One is a Smith & Wesson 22 long rifle pistol with a 6" barrel. Model # is K 128XXX. It has the cylinder that flips out to the side - 6 shot. There is a larger than normal hand grip with a "thumb rest". Does anyone know possible date of manufacture and a value range?

What you have is a K22 (pre Model 17) and the DOB is 1951 and they are great revolvers. I hope that you keep it and shoot it and when you do you think of him.

The K-22 Masterpiece revolver is a very fine .22 handgun. It is perfectly suited for both field and target work. The oversize thumbrest stocks on the gun you have indicate that your father may have done some precision shooting with it, as those heavier hand-filling stocks make for greater control of the handgun.

We'd love to see photos if you have the ability to post them.

Did you mean to put a THUMBS DOWN next to your title?

If so, I'll give you 100 for it if you don't like it...:)

Your revolver has been ID'd so I'll offer condolences on your loss. I assume that is what the thumbs down referred to.

When you're up to it post some pictures of the gun, we like pictures.

Is it possible the "thumbrest" you are referring to is the releived area at the top of the left grip on a set of factory target grips?

the K-22 is one of the finest .22 LR revolvers ever made.

Amazingly accurate and easy to shoot, based on the "near perfection" of the K-Frame.

:)Thanks for the info.

Thanks David for the response. Sorry I don't have pics at this time.

Thumbs down??? My error. Better check my eyesight. I thought that was a Question Mark when I clicked on it.....oh wellllllll. Thanks for the condolences and response

My condolences about your dad. You are fortunate to have his K22, however. They are about as much fun as can be had shooting, in my opinion: exquisitely made, beautiful to look at, with a fantastic action and superb accuracy, not to mention it shoots really cheap ammo! Not only that, it was your dad's with his custom grips! Priceless.

Does the thumbrest look like this?
