Just curious if a Gunsmith can instal a factory sight on a 64 or 65? If not a factory sight, what other options do I have? Is this going to be expensive?

To install factory adjustable sights on a fixed-sight K frame requires milling a channel in the frame top, drilling & tapping, milling the step at the rear, and the cavity to accept the square-headed boss for the elevation screw, plus milling and installing the higher front sight. The totat cost of this work plus your gun will be more than a factory M67.

You might try looking for a Bomar rib I think they used to make one but you will have to drill and tap if you can find one, I know they made 6" ones, john traveler is right, the key way cutter for the elevatation screw will be quite a bit as cutters are high priced. I just checked a 1996 Gil Hebard catalog and Bomar made a 4" rib called a winged cover up rib for a heavy barreled 4" gun for a 10, 13, 64 H.B. 65, 547, 581, and 681.

Some fixed sighted K frames are pinned in - I have a Model 64-3 and a Model 13-3 that are pinned in - and I have a Model 65-3 that is cast into the barrel as one piece and cannot be changed. For the pinned front sight models, Hi Viz makes a fiber optic replacement sight. Other than that, the most economical alternative will be a laser sight.

Best of luck,

Dave
