Interesting discovery

You've seen the pics before. The first is a King Super Target Conversion of a 38 M&P Transition.

Now I fully understand the desire to convert a standard M&P to a tuned target model.

What I didn't understand was the conversion of this K-22. Already a fine target revolver as it came from the factory.

The interesting discovery is that this K-22 conversion is an advertised item in the 1939 King catalog.

Just another tidbit.........Sure would like to find one of those 44 special conversions for $61.00 or a 1939 S&W Magnum for $60.00

Beautiful guns. I love the King conversions of Smiths and Colts, and miss the days when they could be bought for less than unconverted revolvers. Unfortunately, they are finally being appreciated and priced accordingly. Like you, I hope to find someone dumping a .44 that's been "butchered" by King, maybe with help from a guy named Roper.

I'm confused about something. Is one of those two guns a .22 ?
And if so, does it have a hammer with a firing pin ?

What am I looking at ?

As to why a K-22 would be converted to full King, the most likely
reason is the larger sights. The early pre-WW2 K-22's have the same
small sights as the .38's . Those King sights are a lot bigger.

Top pic is the .38. Bottom 2 are the .22.
You can see the hammer firing pin on the 38 and frame mount pin on the 22.

Are you looking at different pictures than we are on the forum? I don't see anything but a hammer mounted firing pin.

Not sure what you guys are seeing but there are 4 pics. The first is a layout of a 38 M&P. 2 and 3 are layouts of a K22 and 4 is a page from the 1939 King catalog.

If you see a "pin" in the frame below the sight, that is to hold the frame-mounted firing pin.
