One of my customer's gave these to me a few days ago. Thought I would share the nostalgia with you all:

Note the price written on the back of the box with a grease pencil. I'll bet we all wish we could find ammo for this price these days:

It appears as though there are only 10 cartridges missing from the box altogether:

Hope that brings back some memories for some of you! I haven't seen any boxes like this since I was a kid.

I have an identical full box of 38 Specials that will be used in my upcoming Old -vs- New 38 Special ammo tests. Can anyone date that box? Thanks...

Not sure on the exact year, but as you can see from this box, it contains no ZIP code for Winchester/Western or Olin on the back. ZIP codes became mandatory in 1967 and appeared on any items manufactured after then, so I'd say this ammo is pre-1967.

Agree about the zip code, but I'm thinking it 1950's at least, maybe older. I also have that box in 32 short and 45 Auto.

Olin and Mathieson combined in about '54-55 so I think stiab's statement about '50s is correct. I think Western went to the yellow box in about 58 or 59.

Ed, is this the yellow box you refer to? If so, I'll date them about 1958 for the test. Thanks...

The box pictured has the child label on the top left corner. That box did not come out until 1962. From my references, the box pictured is the 1962-1968 pattern.

Excellent point, thanks! I was aware of that but had not noticed the warning on this box. This will still be in the "old" category, but not 50's old.

breakerdan is correct. They added the warning in '62. Prior box in many calibers looked the same without the warning.
