Looking up some detailed AKM photos, I found an interesting take down photo spread comparing the VE to the Glock semi. The guy ran 1000 rounds through the Sigma and recorded the jams of various types. I think the Sigma fared well considering he used 1000 rounds of Wolf steel case. Wolf is my ammo of choice in an AKM, but I had several issues with Wolf 9mm in my 9VE. Unknown to me until someone posted on this forum awhile back, there's a good photo showing the cotton damper in the return spring as well. the website is: guerrillagunsmith.com/Sigma.htm

Ditto to what hybridsquirrel said..our son and put probably 300-350 rds through my 40ve and not one problem...'course i cleaned my weapon thoroughly when i got home..wonder if a guy could "limp-wrist" a sigma?

Since last December I'm probably knocking on the door of 500 rounds (not without cleaning) and have only had 3 malfunctions. All failures to feed that a simple slide rack cleared.

Two of those I can chalk up to bad reloads. 1 was when it was brand spanking new so I figure it was a break-in thing.

first post here.

just thought I'd chime in and say that the ONE and ONLY malfunction I've had in probably 500+ rounds, havent been counting, was due to me limp wristing my sigma. it happened the last time I took it out, unfortuantely that was a couple months ago, and had a stovepipe about halfway thru the day. I dropped the mag, racked the slide to clear the spent cartridge and reloaded and kept firing. no problems after that.

Ive had my sigma for about 6 months and it is my first pistol. overall I'm very pleased with it, in spite of being a little difficult to conceal under just a t-shirt.

IMHO he wasn't testing the Sigma as much as the ammo.

I've had more than that shot through one of my loaners using Winchester and Blazer ammo with NO failures. I specify only commercial American Made ammo in them, because I have tapped out too many stuck foreign steel cases from American pistols.

You want to shoot steel in yours on your own time, go right ahead, but not in my guns or in my classes.

I looked at that report. I can tell you he was not on trigger with my Sigma. But to be fair mine has never been subjected to that low class ammo. It has seen majors and retail idiot fodder. But I have never told it to be a good pistol on "C" class ammo. I don't make my CZ-52 digest such trash!

I'm curious whether his extensive disassembly of the pistol, beyond the S&W recommended field stripping, had anything to do with the malfunctions.

In my opinion, the Sigma did very well shooting 1000 rounds of Wolf without cleaning. I've shot 1000s (7 or 8K) of rounds of Wolf through my AKMs and put a couple hundred 9mm Wolf rounds through my M639 and 9VE. The ammo is okay, but is dirty and leaves much carbon and powder behind. Wolf 7.62x39 leaves red specks behind. The number of jams the guy had vs. the number of rounds of dirty ammo in a dirty gun 1000 times is more than acceptable to me. In fairness to Wolf 9mm ammo, my 9VE (sold it) was fairly new when I had a few ejection problems with Wolf. The 639 had no problem with Wolf or any other ammo. 1000 rounds consecutively without cleaning is a tall order for any semiautomatic. I clean an AKM after a day of shooting, why would I expect my 40VE (which I bought used and haven't had a jam after 500+ rounds) to function flawlessly during 1000 consecutive rounds of any ammo without cleaning?
