Public safety is 5 violent crimes per 100,000 people.

Personal safety is carrying a .380/9mm/.40/.357/10mm/.45 handgun for that rare time a violent sociopath wants to make you part of that statistic.

Statistics are a double edge ax. In the 1970s there was a shooting in Loving County, Texas. Loving County is a sparsely populated area in West Texas and there were a little less than 100 people there then. The statistics would show that just over 1% of the total population was the victim of gun violence that year.

Harris County has a lot of murders, but if you look at the county distribution map, there are three areas that can further be identified by apartment complex. A sergeant friend told me that 60% of the murders in the county were in a few apartment complexes.

Some interesting data there. Also, more people are murdered with fists, feet, and blunt objects than with the evil AR 15. In fact all rifles combined.
